This review is from: Andromeda Star Lantern/Lamp in Lavender
I bought this lantern for my teenage daughter to hang above her bed and replace a canopy our cats are destroying. I was attracted to the price and the fact that it comes with the lamp cord. Shipping was very prompt and it arrived a day earlier than the earlest estimate. However it arrived in a smashed and opened box, thanks to the United States Postal Service. Thankfully the lantern was not damaged. Unfortunately it did not live up to it's product description. It is only 19" when it is descriped as 24". On top of that, I think I will have to work with the cord a little to get it to hang straight. In the end it will serve it's purpose and I think my daughter will still be thrilled to have it hanging over her bed, but I will not order from this company again, nor do I think I will purchase an item like this online again. I guess you can't always trust what you read,
A few days later and as predicted, my daughter is thrilled with this lantern. I did do a couple of things to "refine" the look. 1. as far as the other reviewers have said about the lantern not lasting. It is paper, but you can make a cardboard "collar" to go around the lamp socket, so the weight of the lantern itself is resting on that and not the socket itself. This will help it not tear at the point where the lamp rests on the socket. I took a six inch square piece of cardboard, scored it diagonally from corner to corner both ways and down the middle both ways. Then foldes along all scoring lines, cut a slit along one middle score from edge to middle as well as a "x" shape centered from middle along score lines. Slide the "collar" over the cord where it meets the socket until the cord is centered in the "x". Tape the cut slit closed. Slide the socket with the collar into the star (you should have already opened the star)and tie just as you would without the collar. 2. I made a fabric sleeve to go over the cord which gives it a decorative look instead of just a lamp cord hanging from the cieling. It took 3 yds. of fabric, cut into 6" strips (cut across grain from salvage to fold) you should end up with 18 strips 6" x 45" to 60" (depending on the width of your fabric) sew strips up one side making a tube, but leave all 28 strips as individual tubes or they will be immposible to turn. Turn tubes and slide over cord. Again depending on the fabric, you should use at least 16 tube, you want that "scrunched" look. The scrunched tubes should go all the way from the star to the plug. ( We placed the tubes so the switch was inbetween and exposed) Now she likes her room even better than with the canopy and has the added bonus of the lighting.
