This was my first taste of Anubis Gate and wow, I can't get enough. This album grabs your nape and doesn't let go. I will be buying more CDs from this band. If you are a progressive/Scandiavian metal fan...this one is a must!

You Should Buy this CD, March 28, 2010
You should buy this CD...if you don't already, that is. I had never heard of these guys and just randomly stumbled upon this CD. Man, am I glad I did! Anubis Gate manages to create interesting progressive metal that sounds entirely original.
The music is certainly more intricate & creative than most, but they never seem to loose sight of the goal of creating enjoyable songs. Unlike some metal bands these days (*dragonforce*), they use heavy and complex rhythms, which makes the music more interesting for me. The guitars (both 6 string and 4 string variety) are important to me, since I play guitar myself. They are never dull, but at the same time never self-serving or obnoxious. It seems that the riffs were written to make great music, not feed the musicians' egos. The vocals are also very fitting and enjoyable, you'll find yourself singing along in no time. One final note about the sound: they make use of electronic sounds and times, which I think works well for them.
"Freak Storm at Post Zeta" is an atmospheric introduction, and does a good job of setting the mood of the album. The first full track, "Snowbound," is what I would call the attention grabber (and the sample doesn't do it justice). It is a well composed song with typical verse/pre-chorus/chorus structure and great hooks, but also contains a nice instrumental interlude. "Waking Hour" is similar in this regard and also a strong song. The title track, "Andromeda Unchained" starts out with a powerful, driving instrumental intro. "Banished From Sector Q" is an instrumental interlude that makes me think of drifting through empty space, a very nice effect. "Beyond Redemption" is another solid track with good instrumentation and melodies. "Resurrection Time" starts out with another powerful instrumental intro, and then makes an interesting change of pace to an electronic sounding rhythmic verse. The chorus is very catchy as well. "Escape Pod" is another interlude, this one simpler and not quite as effective. "This White Storm Through My Mind" is another standout track. It contains some interesting atmospheric instrumentation at times, mixed with creative use of audio samples (which sound like they came from rocket launches or something). "The Final Overture," is based on a solid melody but also contains a nice solo section. "Take Me Home" is the ballad on the album, which I usually don't like, but this one is good. "Point of No Concern" is another song that makes interesting use of rhythms and electronic sounds. It also features a well written chorus melody. "The End of Millennium Road" is probably my favorite track and is a fitting end to the album.
