5.0 out of 5 stars Andy is the BEST!
I saw this when it originally aired on PBS, taped it, and taped it when it was rerun, about the time Man on the Moon premiered. So I have it on VHS. Don't know if this DVD has extras--but the show itself is wonderful!! I think it is the best of the Andy shows. Andy had wanted to make this a regular show, and it's too bad that he didn't accomplish that. It was hilarious...

2.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
I saw Andy Kaufman on TV several times in the 1970s, when he was extremely funny. On this show, however, he seems to be intent upon embarrassing himself. The only good two minutes was his Elvis impersonation; otherwise, this is flat, unfunny, almost an insult to the audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Andy is the BEST!, January 6, 2005

I saw this when it originally aired on PBS, taped it, and taped it when it was rerun, about the time Man on the Moon premiered. So I have it on VHS. Don't know if this DVD has extras--but the show itself is wonderful!! I think it is the best of the Andy shows. Andy had wanted to make this a regular show, and it's too bad that he didn't accomplish that. It was hilarious! It starts off with the show's last 5-or-so minutes, making you think you missed it all, coming in late. But no...
The Beverly Hills Museum of Broadcasting also screened this ( as well as Andy's Special ) as part of a tribute to him, pre-Man on the Moon. WORTH BUYING.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Great Neck lunatic at his funniest, June 12, 2000

Milos Forman's Man On The Moon was my introduction to Andy Kaufman and, having loved the film, I decided to check out the real thing. My initial fear was that the stories of Kaufman's antics would be funnier than his actual performances. This video proved me wrong - the man is a genius, folks. His Elvis impression still stuns, and the transformation into a puppet of his most terrifying creation, Tony Clifton, is a stroke of pure brilliance. For life long fans and beginners alike, this is a comedy bullseye.

4.0 out of 5 stars He's From Hollywood. He Has The Brains., August 8, 2000

There is no disputing the genius of Andy Kaufman, and this DVD encapsulizes it extremely well. As you watch this old PBS special, you will feel like you are watching pro wrestling, Andy's favorite. You know it's all rigged, yet the little voice in the back of your mind peeps to you, "Is it REALLY?"

The fight with Elaine boosler is HILARIOUS, and "Has-Been Corner" will make you cringe. The silly, kiddie antics thrown in by Andy will make you giggle, and the Tony Clifton puppet is a perfect sidekick! Oh, and catch the height of Andy's desk as a subliminal sleight to Johnny Carson!

This DVD will delight every Andy Kaufman fann, yet it will only prove to those who don't like him the reasons why they don't. IF you love Andy like I do, buy this. If you don't, go listen to your Andrew Dice Clay tapes again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Genius To The World Of Entertainment, September 1, 2000
This review is from: Andy Kaufman Show [VHS] (VHS Tape)
To most people he is simply just "Latka" from theshow Taxi, but to me he is the greatest entertainer of our time. Andy Kaufman was a very brilliant man! His ideas were something very special, and in many ways, GENIUS! If you have never experienced his bizarre, creative and original ways, I highly recommend this video. Help keep Andy alive!...

4.0 out of 5 stars Andy in control, August 11, 2000

By 1983, when this was made, Andy Kaufman was considered untouchable by most people in the entertainment business. But as Andy proves here, that really didn't matter all that much to him. With no money on the line, Andy was able to create a trully original piece of comedy that is sure to satisfy any Kaufman fan.

I'm a huge Andy Kaufman fan, and I was really looking forward to seeing this. The only thing worth watching on this one-hour show, was the Elvis impression! The other 58 minutes of this one-hour show, was boring and not funny at all! Thank God I didn't buy this! I'm going to rent the midnight special next, it has to be better than this dud!
