I honestly couldn't finish this book. I got to the part involving the favored puppy and I was crying so hard that I just could not continue. This book is NOT for the faint of heart. It breaks my heart to know that somewhere, there are people who have or are suffering at the hands of people like the father. Wow.

Ralph's story is heart wrenching. I'm actually speechless. It's 2am right now and I just finished the book. After the chapter about the puppies, I had to put the book, and have myself a good cry! I hope Ralph knows that his father is not a Christian. I'm thankful he has Twila and his children in his life. And judging by the scripture at the end, I hope you are feeling the love from your "heavenly" father. I will definitely look at children in a different way. This book really affected me. May God richly bless you...your reward in heaven is great. I want to meet you someday.

intensely personal and honest story of an unbelievable childhood. The book was hard to put down even though I was crying reading it. It is amazing to me that people can even survive such an upbringing. The process of getting this published must have been extremely difficult. I can only imagine the pain in retelling the stories. I pray that it's been therapeutic at least. It takes guts to be this honest and to share such horrific stories. Wherever you are, Leroy, I hope that you feel safe and loved.
