Finally a new DVD on Warhol,
By A Customer
This review is from: Andy Warhol - The Complete Picture (DVD)
I was excited to see a new DVD was to be released about Andy Warhol a month ago. I bought this right away when it was finally released only to find out it is a documentary that was created in Canada that was broadcast on US television about 8 months ago. I had taped this when it aired so I was a bit disappointed to learn they are one in the same although it's nice to have it on DVD instead of tape. This is a great DVD and covers some new angles and material not found in 'Portrait of an Artist' or 'Superstar'. It's interesting to see some new interviews with members of the Warhola family. To see how they have aged since 'Portrait of an Artist' just proves it's about time something new was released. I highly recommend this DVD if you did not already watch it on television or if you are an avid fan of Andy like myself. Well worth the price of admission alone:-) Enjoy!

Biography's and Documentaion of Andy Warhol. Please let there be More of the "Cheesy" PBS atmosphere in the film, as one reviewer remarked..And too i could Not either Remove myself from the couch while watching this Work of Art.. You know its going to be Good when you have Great interviews, especially art collector Dennis Hopper, and friend of Andy. This dvd is An amazing project done to Perfection..That im Sure, Andy would have Approved of. Its Something one could not fully grasp with just one viewing. Jam packed of things i Never knew existed. BUY THIS ONE for Sure.

I bought this after reading a biography on Andy Warhol,
I found it very interesting to see the people I just read about in video and fill in some details that the book might not have covered, this is a really entertaining film, full of footage of Andy at the Factory, making films and being "Andy Warhol" It also turned me on to the Dandy Warhols music for which I am very grateful! There is alot of good footage of Andys art and his home and posessions and even interviews with family members and a look at the early life of a struggling immagrant family and the gifted artist they raised who changed the world of art and influenced the way products and personality's are marketed! Recommended!

Dated; it's time for a more modern documentary on Warhol,
By O. Marie "Stargoddess7" (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Andy Warhol - The Complete Picture (DVD)
This film is alright - it covers Warhol's life adequately. I think the PBS documentary is the most thorough, however. This film is more of an outline than engaging. I did like some of the philosophical views that were discussed by Andy's friends or associates. They helped me get a better sense of Andy mindset. One person said she felt Andy's artistic intentions were to give some people's lives a sense of dignity. Film was one of the mediums he used. Another artist mentioned Andy had an ability to get at the true sense of a person, by having them sit in front of a film camera for 15 minutes, then visually observing that footage.
This film seemed a little dated, without a soundtrack or no interesting sounds from Andy's era. It has a stereotypical interview with one of the actors who played Warhol. Movement of the information seemed to get side-tracked at times. Therefore, I don't feel it brought Warhol out as a personality so much as it was just an outline to the years he was here. It's probably time for a more modern documentary on Warhol!

Informative but Generally Goofy,

Although the film is really informative and offers a great anectdote about Warhol's supposed asexuality, the film has a cheesy PBS documentary feel to it. It's high art approach to Warhol's life and art seem opposed to his own intentions in his work. There's still some amazingly funny moments, all unintentional.

good documentary,
This review is from: Andy Warhol - The Complete Picture (DVD)
This is a good documentary of Warhol's life but may be a little inappropriate for younger viewers. I thought I would buy this for my classroom but had to censor some parts of the dvd and skip scenes. I always preview before i show in the class and i am glad i did with this one because I had to skip alot of scenes.! Otherwise, true to his life. May need to watch with discerning adults!

Too much information?,
By Mr. Art (Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Andy Warhol - The Complete Picture (DVD)
As an Art teacher, I purchased this to use with my students. It's definately an in-depth view, but perhaps a bit too in depth into Warhol's sexuality for high school age students. I would have preferred that the focus be more on the art than on graphic decriptions of his alleged sex life. Disappointing.
