Biography

Andy Williams is the American singer whose voice was described by Ronald Reagan as "a national treasure". His gold and platinum albums testify to his enduring appeal among a public who love a bit of crooning.

His career began as one of a quartet, The Williams Brothers, and they were successful enough to appear with Bing Crosby on the single "Swinging on a Star". By 1952 his brothers left the act… Read more in Amazon's Andy Williams Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifelong Andy Williams fan loves this set!, December 29, 2000

This review is from: Andy Williams - Greatest Hits/Greatest Hits Vol. 2/Love Story (Audio CD)
My mom was an Andy Williams fan so, as a toddler, I was exposed to this gentle crooner. I've been an Andy fan for 40 years and already owned the vinyl versions of these cds. But what a treat it was to be able to listen to these classic tunes in my car and in my office where I have a cd player. This is a superb collection of Andy's greatest. Believe me, as a lifelong fan, I pored over the Amazon titles very closely and carefully. I decided that this collection would be the best value and the most enjoyable. You'll love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Ladies and Gentleman , Mr. Andy Williams", July 21, 2003

You would be much better off spending a little more for the Complete Columbia Chart Singles Collection CD. A 50 song anthology of Andy Williams covering the late 50's - 70's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Some songs even better than the originals, December 17, 2003

This review is from: Andy Williams - Greatest Hits/Greatest Hits Vol. 2/Love Story (Audio CD)
This Andy Williams trilogy (Greatest Hits/Greatest Hits 2/Love Story) has in fact most of his greatest hits. Not only that, but some of those selections made popular by others come out even better than the versions by the original singers. In some case, it's because of a more mature, developed voice. Then there's My Sweet Lord. It's not especially impressive at the beginning, but once that background chorus starts getting into its crescendos, it is riveting and surpasses George Harrison's version. Without even a thought of He's So Fine.

There are a few things missing: House of Bamboo, I'll Remember You, and some others. I guess they are avalable elsewhere but they could have well substituted for some of the lesser known items. Regardless, well done!
