5.0 out of 5 stars The best of many Best Ofs..., February 14, 2000
This review is from: Angel Dust: The Collected Highs 1978-83 (Audio CD)
There are, of course, half a dozen Upstarts collections on a welter of labels not to mention a stack of shoddy Greatest Hits Live cash-ins. This eclipses them all. Somewhere between punk and Oi, the Upstarts actually evolved in a way few of their post-Pistols brethren ever managed. So here we have the essential Murder of Liddle Towers followed by the hooky chants from the first couple of Zonophone albums, wrapped up with killers like Solidarity, Never Say Die, and Woman in Disguise when Paul Thompson, at the time a recent outcast from Roxy Music, brought his demonic thumping to the Upstarts' output. Lead singer Mensi had great Left instincts, and even if his anthemic England, included here, did become a National Front anthem, the Upstarts were always on the side of good. This is where to hear them best.

This is an excellent album. If you want a great compilation of the Angelic Upstarts, buy this along with "Who Killed Liddle" on Recall. Between them, only three songs are repeated, and they're the three best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Oi band I know, July 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Angel Dust: The Collected Highs 1978-83 (Audio CD)
No sense in reviewing something I love. This band is the best. The CD sounds great. However, I thought I was getting the double, since this is a double album. I only got part one. However, for 8 dollars, I'm highly satisfied.
