An Angel for the Earl by Barbara Metzger,
By
This review is from: An Angel for the Earl (A Regency Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lucinda is 17 years old and elopes with a rake. He is actually abducting her and his intention is to demand a ransom from her father. As Lucinda wards off his advances, he accidentally dies and she escapes. But on the way home, she catches chill and is on the death bed. The angels could not decide if she should go to heaven or hell. So they come up with a plan. If she changes the unfeeling, rake, gambler, womanizer Keiren, earl of Somerfield into a good man, she will go to heaven, otherwise she will go to hell.
The story is actually how she brings a change in Kerry's heart. It is a lovely story. It touched my heart. The change in Kerry is not sudden and it does not appear false. He changes gradually and they both fall in love gradually. Once he changes, what a man he becomes! The ending speech by Kerry brought tears to my eyes. I could feel their true love. I loved the book. It was an excellent read and five stars for it.

A very different kind of book! I've never read anything like this one before!
Not so perfect, not quite dead Lucinda is on a mission to save a soul from Hell -- her own! But to do this she must reform a rake (Kerry), who in the end was not so bad. This book was so interesting, I finished it in a day. And it brought tears to my eyes in the end. Unique way of showing how Kerry's backsliding affects the "angel" Lucinda -- her clothing (or lack of) is the indicator! Well worth reading - and a KEEPER!! P.S. I don't think what Lucinda did was bad enough to put her in Hell ... but then there would be no story!!

This is a surprisingly charming book. The heroine is fine but the hero is the interesting character as an unabashed rake with a secret heart of gold. It's an offbeat regency but well worth the read.
