Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-4-Andi O'Malley has a loving family, a spirited elderly friend, and frequent encounters with angels. She also has normal "kid" problems. In Experiment, she makes a dangerous wish before going to bed. When it is granted, she is turned into the most popular girl in school and, of course, learns that popularity can have its pitfalls. In Broken Wing, Andi and her twin sister befriend Sera, an injured rookie angel. The elders feel sorry for her misfortune and give her her first assignment on Earth while she waits for her wing to heal. The twins, like readers, are left in the dark about Sera's mission, but with the help of their friend Miss Bluebonnet, they come up with a scheme to assimilate the angel into their school. Strange things begin to happen: lab animals get loose, zoo animals are tamed, and a missing student reappears. In the end, everything begins to make sense and Sera returns to the heavens with not only a healed wing, but also having mended other problems that existed. The premise for this series-a child deals with moral issues with the help of angels-has potential. However, the narratives lack originality, and at times are forced. The plots, especially in The Broken Wing, rush toward tidy endings.

Finally a book series that is a positive influence that teaches values and character to your children. AND. . . they are fun and exciting to read. "The Adventures of Andi O'Malley" series presents a tidal wave of wisdom that is lightyears beyond, "See spot run!" An intelligent choice.
