4.0 out of 5 stars High-quality romantic suspense, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Angel Eyes (Paperback)
Cora O'Donnell is a psychic living in Sedona, a smalltown in Arizona. She moved there after some negative experiences she had as a result of helping the police with cases she had visions about. Her life has been peaceful since she moved here, but now she has dreams / visions again. In them she sees a serial killer who abducts women to rape and kill them. He picks them because of their pale blue eyes - angel eyes as he calls them - which he takes as trophies after their deaths. Roger Duran is ex special ops. He lost his job when his girlfriend disappeared - another victim of the serial killer - and he became a suspect, not just for her murder but also for some of the other missing women. The police had to let him go because he had airtight alibis for some of the disappearances, but there were parallels to where he was at the time of several of the crimes that made him more than suspect. When a friend in the police tells him about some new disappearances he follows his leads and instincts to Sedona. He and Cora soon feel attracted to each other. But it also becomes clear that the killer is now after her - and the police don't believe in Rogan's innocence...
'Angel eyes' is a well-written romantic suspense novel with characters you can like, a convincing villain and a good plot. It's suspenseful and the romance is also very enjoyable. I am reminded of Nora Roberts, in a positive way, though the book is original / not a copy of someone else's style. The reason why I don't give it five points is that I would have liked it better if some points had been given more depth, for example Cora's past, which is only hinted at. Jaycee Clark's 'Deadly'-series, for example, has that depth, which to me makes the characters and plots excellent and simply draws me in more than 'Angel Eyes' has. Compared to those books, the author also relies more on coincidence than I usually like, for example when Rogan ends up in the same town as and falls in love with the killer's next victim. Despite that, this book is a lot better than most other romantic suspense novels on the market and is definitely worth one's money and time.
