Please, pay no attention to the review below mine which calls this collection of Webb gems a dud. I don't know how anyone could call any Webb CD a dud. This album contains the same thought-provoking lyrics and haunting melodies as the rest of his catalog, along with a few surprises. It also contains one of the best Webb tunes ever written, Scissors Cut, a track also recorded beautifully by Art Garfunkel. This was my first solo Webb CD after appreciating his songs for years as recorded by other artists from Glen Campbell to Richard Harris to The Fifth Dimension to Linda Ronstadt. This album is certainly NOT a dud. I was very pleased with this purchase and it has prompted me to buy other Webb solo recordings. I would also recommend Webb's duet CD with Glen Campbell entitled "Reunited" if you are a fan of both Webb & Campbell. Purchase and enjoy!

This album features a chubby looking Webb in excellent voice, and while none of the songs is as memorable as his best work, they are extremely well-crafted, and reward repeat listening. "God's Gift" and "Nasty Love" epitomize their yuppie milieu with sophisticted rhythms and subtle chord progressions. "One of the Few" and "Scissors Cut" possess a lovely, earnest charm.

The title cut, "Angel Heart", and "In Cars" evoke the music of Webb's childhood. Remember the Hollywood-style debuts with which Detroit feted its new car models cars back in the 40s and 50s? Imagine a stunning female passenger with flawless, platinum hair resting her head on the shoulder of her clean-cut beau. They sit motionless in a sprawling convertible sedan which glitters under muted klieg lights as it revolves on a turntable. Listening to "In Cars", you see it all clearly.

Two of the cuts: "Work For a Dollar" and "Old Wing Mouth" are totally misplaced here; the latter, while good, should have been reserved for another album. Regardless, fans of Jimmy Webb should not ignore this under-appreciated album.

I completely agree with "music fan" from Missouri, this cd is full of incredible, lovely songs. This was my first introduction to some of Jimmy's cd's after hearing all the other typical songs we've heard over the years but this cd has an amazing collection of tracks. "Scissor's Cut" is an absolute standout; I never get tired of hearing this track. Jimmy Webb is a genius, I can't stop listening to this cd. What a voice and those lyrics!!
