From Library Journal
This thoughtfully written collection of short stories from Christian feminist and theologian Maitland (A Big Enough God, Riverhead: Putnam, 1996) provides a look at some famous women of the ages, as well a some fictional stories. In the first of three sections, Maitland describes the life of Sarah throughout her long marriage to Abraham. The second section retells the stories of such famous Christians, saints, and martyrs as Lady Godiva, Radegund, and Margaret Clitherow. The last section is a witty account of the author's personal relationship with her guardian angel. Maitland writes with intelligence and grace, making her collection a compelling and satisfying account of religious lives of the past and present.
