Music that changed my life, December 14, 2004
This review is from: Angel of Mine (Audio CD)
Touch my soul was the first Duval's song that I've ever heard. It was way back in the 80's. Since then Frank Duval's albums are few chosen ones that I always have with me wherever I go to, whether it is a subway ride to work or a picnic out of town. His music has changed my life. Whenever I feel blue, I only need to pop his CD, and in a few moments his voice, his lyrics and his music make me different man. Mr. Duval, thank you for bringing joy and happiness into my life!

Dangerous Schmaltz?, December 14, 2010
This review is from: Angel of Mine (Audio CD)
Far beyond Kitsch and ... I don't know. Duval's music was used in many many tv-series in 80's Germany, especially crime-series, like Derrick, which was the biggest success of german tv-production ever. All around Europe. He understands criminals, victims, policeofficers (maybe sometimes a little less).... his songs tell stories about hope, love, death, alienation, dependance, search, suffering... maybe you're feeling comfortable with him. The emotion he can express with his voice really cuts deep. Hard to believe, but on an emotional level, his voice makes me think of early Gary Numan. And you got the synths here too. I am touched by his music. Stuff, that once was very famous but somehow always stayed under the radar. I guess, the Neue Deutsche Welle laughed about his ultraromantic newage existencialism. It's esoteric Schlager, man. It's dangerous. He sounded a little too scary and dark for the post-punkers go pop. He sounded authentic. A true beatnik. Kick me for that, I'm laughing now too.
