4.0 out of 5 stars Of Course Bonnie Raitt Does NOT Sing On This !
Whenever you look at the title of an album ( CD ) and see words such as "Celebrates" or "Celebration" or "Inpsired By" or "Friends Of" . . . Those words mean that you will NOT find that artist on that album . Instead you will find other people doing their versions of the music which made somebody famous...

1.0 out of 5 stars Tricked Into Buying
I thought that this CD was Bonnie Raitt because I had asked to be notified by e-mail when a new CD came out. I was excited because my husband is really a fan, and I thought this would be a great surprise gift.

To our great disappointment, this was Bonnie Raitt music done "bluegrass" style. I like bluegrass. I like Bonnie, but the renditions were awful...

This is a fine album . Of course , Bonnie Raitt does not sing on this album .

Are you looking for the song , "Angel From Montgomery" ?

It was written by John Prine . The song was made famous by John Prine and Bonnie Raitt singing a duet , on the Bonnie Raitt album "Streetlights" , which was released in 1974 .

You will also find that song on a collection of Bonnie Raitt's work , interestingly titled , "The Bonnie Raitt Collection" . The "liner notes" from this CD include a very nice history of Bonnie's career , the songs on the CD , and some important past albums .

In case anyone is interested , Bonnie Raitt's debut release , from 1971 , is still easily available , new , today .

And , John Prine's first release was also made in 1971 , and is also still easily available .

The ninth song on "John Prine" , by "John Prine" , is "Angel From Montgomery" .

Enjoy ! :^)

3.0 out of 5 stars It's exactly as I expected., March 5, 2002

First, I don't understand how anyone could be "tricked" into thinking this is a Bonnie Raitt album. It's clearly marked as "Bluegrass celebrates Bonnie Raitt", and listed under "Various Artists".

That said, I was expecting bluegrass-style covers of Bonnie Raitt songs and that's exactly what I found. They're up-beat and easy to listen to, and that's what I was looking for as background music at work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Look past the deception, October 14, 2000

I ordered this album thinking it was by Bonnie Raitt.... I put it in my CD player with much anticipation and during the first song, I realized that Bonnie wasn't going to sing. I switch to the second song and again... NO BONNIE! That's when I read the CD jacket and found that it was Bonnie's songs played by Bluegrass artists.

Like reviewer "Tricked Into Buying", I too, thought that this was a Bonnie Raitt CD and I felt deceived.

Also, like reviewer "Tricked Into Buying" I like bluegrass, but rather than say "the renditions were awful", I started listening to them as "Bluegrass" and not as poor renditions of Bonnie Raitt. The "Tastes like Chicken" analogy just doesn't work here. Try to forget about Bonnie Raitt when listening to this album. The musicians are excellent. It's interesting to hear how they incorporate the "Blues" sound with "Bluegrass" instruments and then move right into the tradition "Bluegrass" sound.

Listen to it for the "Bluegrass" and be suprised by the wonderful Bonnie Raitt melodies you can pick out.

I ran across this for a couple of bucks at a yard sale. The woman seller said "It's not Bonnie Raitt. I thought it was." Well, that's obvious when you see a title like this, or "In The Style Of...." or "...Plays ______" whoever. But my best friend loves Bonnie & is starting to enjoy Bluegrass, and loves to sing, so I snagged it for her. The players on this disc are adequate, and though not Seldom Scene, Sam Bush, Alison Krauss quality, they play much better than I ever could. It's decent for singing along with, and that's about all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Will the Real Bonnie Raitt please stand up?, November 24, 2000
This review is from: Angel from Montgomery-Bluegrass Celebrates Bonnie (Audio CD)
I happen to like bluegrass music, and I think that the artists on this CD do a good job of playing in that particular musical style but I too thought that it was a CD of Bonnie Raitt hits, sung by Bonnie Raitt. I thought that, because I found it in the popular music section of a local music store, behind Bonnie Raitt's name, mixed in with all of her other great CD's, which is why, I suppose, I didn't read the "fine print" closely enough to figure out if wasn't her. For that reason I was really disappointed.

Although disappointed not to find Bonnie Raitt singing, this album turned out to be really good. My main disappointment was that I thought I had finally found a recording of the song, "Angel from Montgomery" which I heard Bonnie Raitt sing on the radio. I am still trying to find that CD.
