The Illyria character is indeed an interesting person to me. A little too full of herself still after having seen the remains of her previous world, she never fails to talk to everyone like they're servants. This story revolves arouind her and Gunn after LA comes back from hell. They decided to take a road trip to visit Fred's family and while there, attacked a demon and his cronies bent on taking Ilyria's power and then killing all half breed demons. They failed and failed big. alot of the story focused on Gunn though, about what he'd been going through from the moment the final episode of Angel ended and LA went to hell. I won't tell the story, that defeats the purpose of buying it, but i do recommend it very much if you are into the Angel series, both the show and subsequent books. You def won't be disappointed

Illyria is a far more interesting character than Gunn to me and I was delighted when the majority of this book turned out to be about her. This is a really fun book to read with some great action spreads but what made me give this four rather than three was the ending. Not everything is black & white and Gunn finds this out at the end. Illyria comes across really cool in this book and this is a brilliant read for fans of her character and anybody who is interested in the Angelverse.

As per the title, I'll freely admit that I found the Gunn storyline in After the Fall to be one of the weaker links in that chain. Nonetheless, I was deeply interested in Illyria.

I'm happy to report that this volume brings Gunn back to relevance in a way that (at least to me personally) I was unable to connect to in the previous volumes. The Illyria story is equally compelling. Don't expect much beyond Gunn and Illyria, these are their stories.

The writing is strong, the artwork, as in much of the Angel canonical series, is somewhat lacking. It's not bad art, by any means, it's just that, at times, it fails to adequately portray the events occurring at that moment in time. (Particularly I've noticed the tendency throughout many of the Angel volumes to focus on an oversized full-page graphic, or two page graphic, that, despite its beauty, fails to convey to the reader what a few sharply defined sequential smaller panels would do.)

Despite these reservations, highly recommended for anyone that has made it this far into the storyline (these events take place following the first story in volume 6) and cares about either Gunn or Illyria.
