I was disappointed with this album. YOu get all of the four tet videos but they are pretty bland and boring. "She moves she" is pretty funny, and the best on the dvd.
The cd is not that good at all. The single for "my angel rocks back and forth" is nice, but the remix and other tracks are so-so. Four tet should have waited to do the cd/dvd thing that everyone else is doing, this is a waste of money. 2 stars-1 for the single, and 1 for the "ok" video. get pause and rounds.

Four Tet - My Angel Rocks Back And Forth,
This review is from: My Angel Rocks Back & Forth (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
One of Four Tet's best tracks off ROUNDS gets the remix treatment on this single. The original MY ANGEL ROCKS BACK AND FORTH is all delicacy and thudding bass, a study in contrasts. Icarus, however, makes the track even more abstract, trading some of the aching moodiness of the original for sliced up Chinese-vocal samples and drum 'n' bass beats. Isambard Khroustaliov's blend of "First Thing/Chia" takes the abstraction even further. But the tonal, ambient "I've Got Viking in Me" brings things back down to earth... sort of. "All the Chimers" is a music box thrown into a vacuum and slowly winding down. This single definitely rocks back and forth!

5 for the title track, 3 for the rest...,

Like my title says, the original track is amazing, but the other tracks on the disk didn't wow me. This was a little disappointing since I like so much of Four Tet's work. Nonetheless, if you want to give the crowd something different and bring it down for a minute, this is the track!

pause and rounds are some of my favorite albums as of recently. so maybe i had high hopes for this cd, even if it was pretty much remixes and repeated songs...
cd 1 with the music.. i'd give it a C+. my angel rocks back and forth is a beautiful hypnotic song; cant go wrong with that. the other remixes that follow are not so hot...they are intersting to listen to at first, but carry on too long and get rather annoying after the first two minutes. cd 2 with the music videos... a B-. the video for my angel rocks back and forth has some strange, intriguing footage, and the way they present it is unusual, but overall it gave me the feeling of an art student trying a little too hard to make a "deep insightful disturbing yet quirky" film, where the computer generated parts and the real video parts didnt quite mesh and felt.. i dont know, a litttle belabored. the video for she moves me suits the song, but didnt hold my interest very long. very abstract and repetative, but not awful..just not my personal taste. as serious as your life was HILARIOUS. this dvd was worth it just for this movie! really funny, not at all pretentious, just europeans in traditional costumes dancing to four tet's trippy beats. great stuff. no more mosqutoes is a little freaky, a little retarted, and..i hate to say it again, but a little pretentious, too. overall... probably not worth spending 13 dollars on, but worth watching/listening if you can borrow it from someone else. |
