3.0 out of 5 stars Ehhh... the ending was good, August 29, 2006

I only gave this book 3 stars because it started off a little slow. Let me correct that it started off OK, continued very slow, sprinkled some interesting things in there and ended OK. If a book is good I will read it in 1 or 2 days, it took me a week and a half to finish, and I skipped chunks of irrelevant BS. It was pages and pages where she went on and on about the name of a block and it was about 12 dudes on that block who she had to holla at, and the little speech she spit was the same to every cat she talked to - -it got redundant and boring, and left me to close the book and say.... when is Dutch III coming out??

4.0 out of 5 stars Never Ending Plan, October 1, 2007
By
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
Kareemah "Angel" El-Amin was raised in a strict Muslim household. Although she was ridiculed for her clothes and religion, her childhood for the most part was good. However, her father's love eventually crossed the line. Scared, ashamed and uncertain of what to do, Angel was punctured with carting around that dirty little secret. When Angel discovers that her fathers indiscretions moved on to her little sister she knows that it's her job to protect her sister at all cost.

Now that Angel's tasted blood, she's no longer in fear of Allah. She's decided to appease her own self-seeking ways at any cost. While D.C. may think that they've seen their share of bloodshed, drugs and crime, nothing could've prepared them for the death, destruction and deception that would come with Angel's leadership.

Betrayal, deception and street justice put the entire city on high alert. Angel's wrath won't end until every person affiliated with bringing her a move have paid with their lives. Friendships crumble, hate festers and many tears are shed. Will incarceration stop her?

While I didn't run out to cop ANGEL when I learned of the release, I can't see how people mistook this character for the one in the DUTCH series. While they are both ruthless women in the streets, they are TWO DIFFERENT WOMEN all together. Anthony Fields, author of Angel, did a fantastic job building an ambitious woman in the criminal world who wasn't afraid to do what she had to do in order to reach the top rankings. While I was perturbed with the editing, it didn't detour me on my quest to find out how Angel ends.

2.0 out of 5 stars HATED IT, September 22, 2006
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
I was so disappointed with Teri Woods. Of course she tricked me because I thought it was apart of the Dutch series. It dragged on too long with shout outs to everybody and just a long drawn out trip. It picked up a little bit in the middle. I wouldn't recommend this book and it's surprising because I love all of her other books.

3.0 out of 5 stars I've seen better work from Teri Woods, September 22, 2006
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
Teri Woods has done way better than this in the past. Being that I'm from the DC area, the little road trip that I had to endure reading this book upset me, not only because most of the street names were either spelled wrong (purposedly / accidentally) or was made up. We did not need to know every drug spot in the DC area. People that's not familiar with the DC area will have no idea what those streets are. I just think Teri spent too much time naming streets, stores, etc. Also there were too many inconsistencies in the book. Wasnt' her lil sista molested by her father, well how could she be a virgin. When she was about to kill Dearaye, she told the 2 guys to put him in the chair.... well how could she have stabbed him in the butt cheeks. I can go on and on with the inconsistencies throughout the book. It has taken me about 2 weeks to read the book and I'm still not done. I normally read books within 2 days. Do better next time Teri.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Go Getta, April 13, 2007

This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
look up go getta in webster's dictionary and you will find a picture of kareemah "angel" el-amin with her 4-5 by her side. not since reading about anari in dirty money, have i read about a female who could stack them chips and flip them bricks like a sesaoned veteran in the game. angel was a ruthless, down chic who eliminated all competition and threats to claim her spot at the top. initially, the book kinda rambled on, shouting out all of the tri-states finest, but angel proved to be an enjoyable read. ms. woods. please don't keep us waiting too long for the sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay..., October 2, 2006
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
Some way, Angel is connected to the Dutch trilogy, but maybe it should have come before Dutch. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this book connects with the ending Dutch III.

Angel was an entertaining read; however, being from the DC area, Teri Woods left much to be desired with her use of the area's slang and correlating it to the time period of the book. Also, I'm a serious editing critic, and the editing in this book was extremely bad. Many places, titles and names were misspelled (and not the ones slightly changed to avoid legal issues); capitalization was off, as well. I feel as though this novel was rushed and not at all fully developed...I don't even know if it should have been a full novel.

That aside, I do recommend reading Angel if one has read or plans to read the Dutch trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Revenge Is Her Destiny, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
No remorse. No regrets. No sadness. That's the only way Kareemah El-Amin, aka Angel, knows how to live her life. Being ruthless is a must if Angel is going to effectively control the drug trade in the nation's capital. As the body count grows, so does suspicions surrounding Angel. Who will take her down first, the streets or the cops?

Let's divide this review in two parts, shall we, because we are dealing with two players: the author and the publisher.

Presentation...
Despite the cover bearing the name Teri Woods twice, she is not the author, but rather the publisher. As the publisher she fell short of her duties. ANGEL is in need of some serious editing. Multiple errors can be very distracting. Teri Woods should focus more on putting out a quality product and less on seeing how big of a font she can use for her name on the cover. The real author, Anthony Fields, is talented, but the presentation of this novel, at times, takes away from that.

Content...
ANGEL is the gritty account of one woman's climb to the top in the underworld, revealing the darkness of her heart and mind. Author Anthony Fields holds your attention with a story that builds tension and knocks you down with an explosive ending. ANGEL is a book worth reading and Anthony Fields is an author to follow. I look forward to ANGEL II.

5.0 out of 5 stars I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! GREAT READING!, November 27, 2006
This review is from: Angel (Paperback)
I loved this book, I've been a long-time fan of Teri Woods and it's been a along time since I've read anything with everything else in my daily life but I brought this book on Wednesday finished it by Thursday evening and went to the book store on Friday to look for Angel II. At the time I was so anxious to buy Angel II that I didn't even realize that it was not out yet. Hurry Up Teri! I like the excitement in your books. I'm from Philly but I travewl to DC and Maryland all the time and reading your books actually made me see street signs. This was a good book. I can't wait to too what happens in Angel II. I kind of didn't like how Angel ended but I'll be patient and wait to see if my predictions are correct.
