The first time I read this book, I was a young child. I loved it then, and love it just as much today. And I strongly believe that reading it made me a much better person by showing me that there is beauty and worth in every person, and meaning to every life, however short or beset by handicaps.

1.0 out of 5 stars Angel Unaware
This book was misrepresented in the its sale description and picture. The cover was torn and ripped and the book was in poor condition. No where in the ad was it stated that this was a used library book and it had library stamps in it and sign out cards and sleeves still in it. I was very disappointed with the quality.

The first time I read this book, I was a young child. I loved it then, and love it just as much today. And I strongly believe that reading it made me a much better person by showing me that there is beauty and worth in every person, and meaning to every life, however short or beset by handicaps.

The book is written in the voice of Robin Elizabeth Rogers, a Downs syndrome baby (born to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Rogers), who died at the age of two. That baby was dearly loved, and deeply enriched the lives she touched. It begins with her birth, and ends when she leaves to go to heaven. The book is written in a very positive manner, rejoicing in the life she lived (and the joy she brought others).

I think this would be a wonderful book for virtually anyone -- and, IMHO, that it would make a thoughtful gift for those who have a handicapped child, or who have lost a child. For it emphasizes the beauty, worth, and meaning of each life, however short.

I cannot suffi! ciently recommend this book. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prophecy, August 8, 2000
By
"sajh" (Scarborough, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
I read Angel Unaware as a senior in high school in 1966. It stayed in my book collection as I moved to various states throughout my adult life. Then, thirty-one years later (8/26/1981) to the day of Robin's birth (8/26/1950), my "Angel" was born. I knew I had the book somewhere stored away. When Julie was 2 months old, I found the courage to look for it and stood right there in the basement by the open box of books and reread and cried as I realized that she and Robin shared the same day for their birthdays. We have come a long way, both in medical and personal support for persons with Down syndrome. But through the years, I have gone back and read the book again feeling a connectedness of Robin's "Angel spirit" to that of my daughter.

When I found out that Roy and Dale Evans had so much heartache in their marriage and child rearing, I was most anxious to read this book, Angel Unawares. I first read the book immediately after I had found out that I too was the Mom of a very special little girl, so this book as told by Dale was a great source of strength and encouragement to me. I would certainly hope every new parent of a special child could have this book for reference. It really helped me! Not only did I realize that challenges face movie stars as well as common folks, but I realized that I certainly was not alone and this book was a real spiritual and emotional blessing to me!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will really tug at your heart strings., August 24, 1999

This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
My mother remarried when I was almost 12 years old. My sisterand I stayed with family friends while she was on her honeymoon. Theyhad a copy of "Angel Unaware". I read it everyday after school that week. It was one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. I have never been able to get it out of my mind. I am absolutely thrilled to see it in print again. I spent several years before the internet looking for a copy. If you haven't read it you need to put it on your "must read list". You'll never be able to forget it either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully touching and tender!!!, May 30, 1999

This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
I read this book for the first time when I was a very young girl, probably about 12 years of age. I loved it then and have always wanted to re-read it. I recently found another copy and just finished reading it. I found it to be even more wonderful now that I am fully grown and a mother myself. The book brought tears to my eyes and I will always cherish the reading of this book. I would love to see everyone read this book. It really puts things in perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare perspective that grabs your heart and won't let go, June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
Dale Evans' tells this story from a child's point of view, before and after she was sent to earth. This unique perspective allows the author to explain all that she found "right" about her "afflicted" Down syndrome child, and all the gifts she truly offered her family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touched my life in a very special way...., April 26, 2004
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
I received this book for my 10th birthday from my parents, many years ago. At the time, I was very impressionable and this book made a significant impact on my life. I learned then that what we as fallible humans consider to be "imperfect" according to our standards of ignorance and bias is usually the most precious of all things to God.

Now, I have a two-year-old son with Down Syndrome and I can relate in so many ways to this book. As I look back over my life and various correlating events that have taken place, I see that God was preparing me to be the mother of a special needs child all along. And it all started with this one little book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still touching lives, August 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
I doubt even Dale Evans knew how much this little book would touch lives. It was published in 1953 and my 6th grade teacher read the book to all of us in her class years later. Of course, we were all Dale and Roy's fans so we could not wait until the next day when she read another chapter. It is one book that I have read over and over again. It is amazing how Dale got Robin's message which was told from her point of view. If you want to read a book that is life touching, then read "Angel Unaware". The Bible verse from Hebrews is still my favorite verse.

5.0 out of 5 stars a lesson in love and patience, August 7, 2001
By
Viola McCoy (Middleburg, Fl. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
I read "Angel Unaware" about 20 years ago and could not put it down until I finished it. Mrs. Rogers said she was inspired by God to write this book and I know in my heart only someone in tune with God could have written such a heartfelt book. Over the years I lost my copy and have searched everywhere for another copy with no avail. After I got my computer, I found you folks and thank God, at last, I found my dream. I have never been able to think about or tell anyone about this wonderful book without feeling the wonderful warmth and joy I felt 20 years ago when I first picked up this book. I have never read a book since that touched me the way this book did. Thank you for preserving this wonderful work of art even now that the wonderful author, Dale Evans Rogers is at long last at home with that beautiful angel of hers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A healer and a helper for a wounded, grieving soul, June 14, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Angel Unaware (Paperback)
This book helps to see that the world of the disabled can bring joy and love as well as heartache. It really helped me to better understand and accept the death of my 20 month old Down Syndrome son. I read it as a child and knew it was something special but after my son died I read it again and knew it was something extraordinary
