2.0 out of 5 stars Too much fanfare
For me, the performance simply missed the mark. A capable choir should be able to stand forth and sing out without a surround of distracting instrumentation. Though the poor have already suffered enough, I promptly gave my copy of this CD to charity. For that I beg forgiveness.

It is said that human voices are better music compared to any musical instruments, and this CD is the definite proof. With their heavenly voices, the St.Phillips Choir boys brings you to the land of serenity and offers you the peace of mind. This CD features 20 Christmas carols, some very popular, like White Christmas and The First Noel, but some seldom heard, like Saviour's Day and When a Child is Born. New song or not, the choir boys have added an innocent ambience to each song that absolutely touches the listener's heart. Also, some songs have their melodies modified in a way which make them all the more euphonious, like O Little Town of Bethlehem and While Shepherd Watch Their Flocks By Night. Walking in the Air is also an excellent piece, and the instrumental part is positively capable of sending you to tears. Having had so many Christmases and heard so many Christmas songs, many of the traditional ones are becoming banality to me. Angel Voices III, however, offers a brand-new and refreshing experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely stunning voices! My favorite Christmas album., December 4, 2000

I just can't get enough of the choirboys from St. Phillips's Church in London! Their new-age album "Libera" and the more traditional "Angel Voices" discs are THE most accessible treble voice recordings on the market. The instrumental backing is very fresh and subtle on Angel Voices III and lets the voices dominate. The music selection is an excellent mix of contemporary and traditional Christmas songs, with some of the classics done to new melodies - "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" sounding wonderfully new and very beautiful. Most of all, however, the boys' voices are just INCREDIBLE! Some of the best treble singing you will ever hear. Many people are only familiar with boys' choirs from the English cathedrals and the Vienna Boys Choir (although Billy Gilman has shown country music fans how good a boy can sing). Well, Angel Voices takes the sound into the recording studio, freshens the arrangements and the accompaniment, and produces music that will appeal more broadly than the traditional boychoir sound. I bought my copy of this CD from Amazon/UK just two weeks ago, and it's by far my favorite holiday CD. You can find the first two albums on Amazon/UK at a very good price. I recommend starting with Vol II. I've played these albums for family and friends, and they are all totally blown-away by the quality of the singing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite, beyond 5 stars, December 25, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Angel Voices 3 (Audio CD)
I am new to the field of treble voices, though they have haunted me through my life. I just rec'd Angel Voices3, and was tearful from the first couple notes. This is what God hears, when God commands music be played. Except for the sparrow and the mourning dove, and the lil canary in the cage, I have not heard a sound like this that could lift me up spiritually and physically with such joy.
This exquisite sound is a peak experience, maybe because it only lasts 3-4-5 years, then it is gone. Liam O'Kane and the other fellows in this incarnation of this troup took me to a place I forgot. That of magic, boy giggling, secrets shared, and wonder, knowing I would never return.
Absolutely ,and untouchably exquisite. Pure magic. Perhaps when Jesus said "Suffer the little children to come unto me", he saw these eyes full of wonder and heard the songs they sung.
I want to know more, and know of no one personally who has been struck by this beauty. Except for buying more and more, perhaps purchasing cast off or less than this perfect a product, I know of no one to point me in the path of more and more and more of this. Am I too effusive? Sorry! There comes a time when the pure human voice outstrips the machinations of product hawkers.
I am so pleased that Angel Voices3 came into my life!
Recommendations? Please, I am open and ready!

5.0 out of 5 stars Angel Voices 3 [The St. Philips Boy's Choir], February 10, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Angel Voices 3 (Audio CD)
From south London in England, the group Angel Voices was first known as The St. Philips Boy's Choir. For those not so familiar with the group in 1998 the group adopted the new name Libera. "Libera" being the Latin word for "Free".

The compilation on this CD "Angel Voices 3" was first released in 1997 in Great Britain, the song selection is a mainly seasonal selection of Christmas songs! Many long time favourites like White Christmas, (many people will be familiar with the Bing Crosby rendition) Oh Come All Ye Faithful and The First Noel just to name a few.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Robert Prizeman, the music director of the group, and Ian Tilley whom I have learned is the sound and technical master mind of the group. Both these individuals are former St. Philip's choirboys, with a genuine wish to continue the good works started during the early days of the group.

When you listen to the song selection on this CD you will quickly note a more contemporary, mainstream sound! With the pure treble voices of the young boys, Robert Prizeman and Ian Tilley set a goal to integrate both classical and traditional music resulting in a new dynamic mainstream
sound, which would appeal to a wider audience!

Listen to other songs on this CD like "Walking in the Air" with soloist Liam O'Kane a few times and you will find yourself longing for more!

Best Wishes,
Thomas

Excellent CD, a pleasure to listen to. Their new name is now Libera. They are all school children from South London Schools. I recommend this group to everyone.

Robert Prizeman does an outstanding creative job with The St. Philips Boy's Choir. My very favorite is "Walking In "The Air" . Puts Christmas Music from nice holiday fare to outstanding and moving renditions of Christmas favorites.

This one is truly a keeper. I have been a Libera fan so surely this review is somewhat biased. Anyways, this album may not be the best in this category but this was recorded when they were not yet called Libera.

5.0 out of 5 stars HEAVENLY SOUNDS FOR CHRISTMAS, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Angel Voices 3 (Audio CD)
I watched this group sing on public television here locally, I had to get the CD after. Thank you Amazon.com; I tried locally to obtain the CD, none of the stores here had the CD, in fact, none even heard of 'Libera'. Amazon came through for me. This has got to be the best CD I have in my collection ; just amazing the sounds that come out of these kids. Buy it for sure you will not be disappointed.
