I just finished Moonfire by Linda Lael Miller and didn't think I would like another book as much....but then I read Angelfire. The characters we fantastic, the story line has so many twists and turns...very exciting, very enjoyable reading...it had me hooked until the very last page. A definite "must read"!

"Angelfire" is another wonderful romantic little book by Linda Lael Miller. It is a quick read and a great escape. "Angelfire" is a continuation of "Moonfire" which I have not read yet, but I am going out to find it now.

Fan of Miller, but not Angelfire,
This review is from: Angelfire (Mass Market Paperback)
In Angelfire, Miller departs from her usual stories based on strong characters and relationship. The main characters in this book never form a true loving bond and they continue in an emotionally withdrawn and abusive relationship through the last pages of the book. I kept waiting for insights as to why the female character would allow this, but this was never answered. With her next book, I hope Ms. Miller will return to writing about relationships based on strong individuals forming partnership-relationships.

I love how it is set over-seas. It isn't one of the typical Washing territory or Arizona territory books. The secrets, and lies, and the characters, and EVERTHING made this book great!

I think Linda Lael Miller is a brilliant author! She shows a headstrong woman in the 19th century, making her way as a doctor, which was unheard of at the time. Truly a romantic little book!

Where was the romance?,
This review is from: Angelfire (Paperback)
First, let me say, I am a huge fan of LLM. I've read a good number of her books and I found this one last week at a used bookstore and it'll be returning there later today. This book did nothing for me. However, in defense of this book, I will say, I read it on the heels of reading her McKettrick series (the historical series).
The plot had a lot of potential: Bliss, a strong, stubborn woman meets Jamie, a tough, strong man with a past who is going to see her to her destinations safely, even if she doesn't want his help! Perfect. I even liked the twist where they're forced to marry at the inn when her father shows up with a gun. But then it all fell apart for me. I'm not a fan of a heroine handling an unpleasant situation, such as marriage to a man she doesn't want to be married to, by trying to find him another woman. I understand she wanted Jamie to be distracted so she could make a run for it. But to distract him by trying to get him off with a prostitute? No. Not for me. Not for Jamie, either, apparently because he did go to her room instead of spending his wedding night with a woman of ill repute. But then, this is where the book yet again takes another turn I don't like. After this point, these two become like rabbits. Okay, besides a few inspirational romances I've read, all romances I've read include sex. But this one had a little too much. The entire second half of the book was filled with either flaring tempers or rough sex. Well, that and jealous feelings. Let's not forget those. Jamie's awful past came into play in the second half the book, but not in a way that helped to bring the H/h closer. Or it did seem like it to me anyway. Instead Bliss spent the entire half jealous of another woman she thought Jamie was in love with, and for good reason. Goodness, he kept running off with her any chance he got to talk while locking Bliss in a hotel room! I think I honestly could have enjoyed this book more if it weren't for the drastic swings from a happy couple to an enraged, fighting couple to a couple getting it on. It left me wondering where in the world any genuine romance or feelings were. Perhaps his highhanded treatment of her was his way of expressing his love for her, but to me that was not love. Although, she wasn't exactly the smartest heroine there ever was, either. With a knack for running away, which is actually how they meet, it also lands them all in trouble at the end. I guess that had to happen for the sake of the plot, but it sure didn't make her appear to be very bright. For the same of repeating myself yet again, I'll just say, I liked how this book started and was going at first. I enjoyed his protectiveness of her and her fiestiness. However, once they were married, it just became annoying. I'm not one who thinks a woman needs to bow to her husband's demands, and I actually enjoy reading historicals where a woman stands her own. However, she took it to an extreme; and so did he. His effort to be her knight in shining armor and track her down, hold her down, lock her up and even spank her was too much. The book did have a few redeeming qualities I did enjoy such as a few humorous lines and the hero making fun of the heroine and her hoity-toity attitude by calling her duchess. And as I said before, I did enjoy the first half, but the second half really made me question any genuine feelings were present besides jealousy, possession and/or lust.

Don't waste your time,
This review is from: Angelfire (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read a couple book by Linda Lael Miller and absolutely loved her books, however this book fell far from the mark. The main characters have no depth, and no connection. They just rush into different events without giving an explanation as to why things happened. The guy treats the woman horribly and the female lead flies off the handle anytime someone talks to her. Nothing the guy says is right, not to mention shes dumber than a doornail.
Don't read it. Obviously not one of Linda Lael Millers best works.

This is the second of this author's books that I have read, and just as with the other one, this story just doesn't flow smoothly. The impression I get is that she's just out to present "up"s and "down"s in extremely quick fashion. There isn't any real feeling of cohesion between the disasters and the recoveries. I'm not even going to waste the time it would take for me to finish the book. And, sorry, but I'm convinced that I'm finished with Ms Lael-Miller. Neither this nor My Darling Melissa were worthwhile endeavors.
