More About the Author

Clamp, stylized as CLAMP, is an all-female Japanese manga artist group that formed in the mid 1980s. Many of the group's manga series are often adapted into anime after release. It consists of their leader Nanase Ohkawa, who provides much of the storyline and screenplay for all their works and adaptations of those works respectively, and three artists whose roles shift for each series: Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi. Almost 100 million Clamp tankōbon copies have been sold worldwide as of October 2007.

3.0 out of 5 stars Angelic Layer, Vol. 2, November 17, 2011
This review is from: Angelic Layer, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
The Angelic Layer tournament continues!

Like in volume 1, a lot of speed lines are used in the battles so it's not easy to see how the dolls are moving, but an upside to the manga is that the battles are over pretty quickly. I remember from watching the anime that each battle lasts about 1 to 2 episodes long so at least with the manga, the story moves faster and isn't bogged down by the doll fights.

One thing I didn't like about this volume was the perv jokes. They're very subtle and there's only a few, but there's this one where Ohjiro tries to distract Misaki by asking her if her "panties are white with orange stripes." I realize that's suppose to be a light hearted joke, because Misaki gets flustered and panics and Ohjiro is able to make his get away.... but to me, it just seems inappropriate (and icky) for this kind of manga which seems to aim at a general audience. A better joke could have been put there.

Overall, I like the cheery tone of the manga. There's no angst here. It's fun seeing Misaki battling her way through the tournament and making friends along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent manga, March 29, 2004
This review is from: Angelic Layer, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
This is the second in the five-book series, Angelic Layer, and picks up immediate where the first book left off. The Angelic Layer tournament in Kanto continues, presenting Misaki Suzuhara with a series of challenges that test both her ability to control her angel, and her love for her angel. But, along with her cheering friends and strange mentor, there are others watching her back. There's more than one mystery involved here!

This is another excellent manga, every bit as good as Angelic Layer 1, which is saying a lot! I enjoyed the characters and the interesting plot-twists. I must say that you really quickly get drawn into the story, feeling all of the excitement of the tournament. The story is intense, and yet quite fun and friendly, making this a good story for kids as well. As with the book 1, this book is printed so as to be read from back-to-front, right-to-left, in the Japanese style, helping to give the reader the feeling of entering another world. I really enjoyed this book, and found the story to be absolutely enthralling. I highly recommend this book!
