What a great and exciting series!,

This review is from: Angelic Layer, Vol. 4 (Paperback)
This is the fourth in the five-book series, Angelic Layer, and picks up immediate where the third book left off (really this is one story, rather than five separate stories). The Angelic Layer tournament in Kanto is into the final round, but Sai "Ice Machine" Jounouchi is working Hikaru's weakness for all she can. Can Misaki pull another rabbit out of the hat? You bet she can! What a great and exciting series! As with the other books in this series, this one is great, with fast combat, and a wonderful story. You can feel the story roaring towards the finale, but beware, this is another cliffhanger! Always remember that these books are printed so as to be read from back-to-front, right-to-left, in the Japanese style. This is a great book, one that I highly recommend. Go Misaki and Hikaru!

Angelic Layer, Vol. 4,
This review is from: Angelic Layer, Vol. 4 (Paperback)
This volume felt short for some reason. Might be since there are only two doll battles, but the manga is moving steadily forward in terms of the story. The first chapter of this volume held an exciting conclusion to the battle against Lady Sai and her angel, Shirahime. Misaki finally figures out Hikaru's weak spot, but it's nothing extraordinary. It's more like common sense if you think about the disadvantages of being a lightweight. The second battle is near towards the end of the volume and is against Ohjiro, and his angel, Wizard. I didn't like this fight, because it's not drawn really well. I know I've been saying over and over in my Angelic Layer reviews how CLAMP doesn't do a good job drawing the doll battles, but it is one of manga's big flaws. The anime does a way better job showcasing the battles, and in the fight against Wizard, it's easier to see what's happening. (Although in the anime, I think Misaki uses a different tactic to get past Wizard's shield.) I thought the extra chapter "Misaki's Diary" was pretty cute. You can definitely tell here that Misaki has a crush on Koutarou.

I am a big fan of Clamp, but this isn't one of their best works, still it is pretty good. I would recommend this series and is good when you want to read something short. There are only 5 books in this series. The art in this book is okay, though sometimes hard to understand. The plot itself is good. It does contain a tad of yuri. The book is read traditional manga style, right to left (I am very happy about that).
