5.0 out of 5 stars The whole family loves Angelina, July 16, 2003
By

Four stories from the PBS television series. In each tale Angelina faces difficult challenges. The stories are:

The Lucky Penny - Angelina may not get the part she wants until she finds a lucky penny. But can a penny really help or is practice the answer?

The Legend of Big Paw - Angelina, Henry, her father and grandfather go camping and must face the scary tale of a giant cat and a lost war medal.

Angelina and Anya - Angelina learns that is not good to prejudge people.

The Gymnastics Competition - Alice has a chance to be in a major gymnastics competition. But she will have to overcome her fear of the balance beam is she is to have a chance of winning.

Two segments of Little Stars (live footage of children practicing ballet) show the importance of practice.

We love the stories, the music and the voice characterizations. A fun video for young girls, and some boys, with lessons for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent cartoon, no DVD menu, April 27, 2005
This review is from: Angelina Ballerina - The Lucky Penny (DVD)
My daughter (4) love the Angelina shows. I find her-Angelina-a bit whiney and conniving. They all seem a bit melodramatic, but as I say, mine loves it. The only problem I really have with the DVD is the lack of menu: the disc just starts up with the trailers-including Barney (ugh)-and on to the shows. A small thing but disorienting. Even I can make a DVD with a menu.

My grandaughter is 3 and loves Angelina! This DVD contains short stories about ballet and also gymnastics. I like the "real" ballerina part of this DVD as it shows the value of practice which echoes the Angelina segments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring show for young dancers!, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Angelina Ballerina - The Lucky Penny (DVD)
My 4-year-old is just beginning to get interested in ballet and dance and the Angelina Ballerina stories and DVDs provide loads of inspiration whilst serving to entertain at the same time.

There are 4 episodes altogether [12 mins each] - "The Lucky Penny" [Angelina learns the value of practice], "The legend of Big Paw" [Angelina, cousin Henry and dad go camping], "Angelina and Anya" [Angelina learns not to make assumptions about people] , and "The Gymnastics Competition" [Angelina's best friend Alice learns to overcome her fear and build confidence in order to master the balance beam]

The animated stories remain faithful to the source material by Katharine Holabird, and retain the original illustrations by Helen Craig. The quality of the animation is above average, lending an almost real-life quality to the little mice, and the language is clear [British accent is used here]. In between the animated episodes, there are scenes of actual dance lessons, either ballet, folk or others.

I'd highly recommend the Angelina Ballerina series of DVDs to aspiring young dancers, those who love immersing themselves in a world inhabited by adorable little mice and this is probably suited to preschoolers and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANGELINA BALLERINA IS A HIT!!, December 25, 2008

Charming DVD for a child. I purchased it for a two-year old girl who likes to watch DVDs, especially when mom is busy at dinner time. Of course, we always try to select something suitable. The stories are age appropriate. She requests this DVD often. It may even interest her in dancing lessons which was my primary reason for this selection.

It is always a treat to hear Judi and Finty do these movies. Their joint narrations are wonderful and it is fun to share in this effort for young viewers.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great, but I hate Priscilla Pinkpaws!, November 24, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Angelina Ballerina - The Lucky Penny (DVD)
In the Lucky Penny, Priscilla Pinkpaws keeps saying she is the best dancer because Angelina couldn't get her steps right. So Angelina finds a lucky penny and thinks she won't need to practice. but when she loses it, her luck might turn out. In the Legend of Big Paw, Angelina and Henry search for their grandfather's lost medal. In Angelina and Anya, Sammy and the Pinkpaws twins become jealous of the friendship between Angelina and a poor harvest mouse named Anya Moussorsky. So they accuse her of stealing the blackberries in the blackberry patch. So Anya teaches Angelina a wonderful folk dance she does in Dacovia. I love ballet, but folk dancing is wonderful, too. So she and Angelina find Mrs. Pinkpaw's scarf, making the Pinkpaws twins accuse Anya of stealing it. In the Gymnastics Championship, Alice is chosen to compete in the gymnastics competition. But she must overcome her fear of the balance beam if she wants to win. The Pinkpaws twins think Alice is a klutz and think their cosuin Fenella will win. I've never done gymnastics before. My favorite part was when Alice overcame her fear. When Alice won, the Pinkpaws twins and Fenella get very jealous. I thought it was funny when Priscilla said something to Fenella and Penelope in a jealous range: "We were supposed to win that!" But Alice realizes that she will be at the Gymnastics Academy. So Alice surprises Angelina by giving her a cherry she had gotten on her ice cream because she doesn't like them. I really-truly want to do gymanstics and be a gymnast!
