From Booklist
Oscar-winning movie star. Celebrity wife and mother. And, oh yes, U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. That designation is perhaps not the first that comes to mind when Jolie’s name is mentioned, but as this entry in the Celebrity Activists series shows, she takes it seriously. This slim but packed-with-information volume begins in 2000 as Jolie was filming in Thailand, where she first learned about the prevalence of land mines. Soon, she was working with the U.N. on refugee issues, and from there she broadened her portfolio to support other humanitarian causes. Attractively designed and filled with photographs, the book does a solid job of combining information about the important missions and legislation that Jolie has worked on with enough snippets about her personal life to keep the less high-minded reading. Along with a glossary and an extensive bibliography, there is also a useful list of places to look for further information. Grades 6-8. --Ilene Cooper
