From the Publisher

Did she or didn't she have a hot romance with her brother? The tattoo-sporting, bee-stung-lipped Angelina Jolie likes it with both men and women. She and her new husband, Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton,'t get enough of it. And she especially likes it if daggers are involved. We're talkin' sex, of course, and the actress revels in revealing the most intimate details of her rough 'n' tumble life in freewheeling interviews. No wonder she's being touted as the Web's most wanted, fronting Premiere Magazine's Top Ten list of the Internet's biggest stars for her cool roles and edgy talent. Her popularity recently reached new heights after she won a Best Suppor-ting Actress Oscar for her turn as a troubled young woman in Girl, Interrupted. "I'm so in love with my brother right now," she said in her acceptance speech, setting off frenzied media speculation about a possible incestuous affair. Jolie will appear in a number of upcoming films, including Dancing in the Dark, Original Sin, and Beyond Borders. The buzz on her next movie, Tomb Raider (based on the enormously popular computer game), is predicting a 2001 blockbuster and an electrifying performance by Jolie as cybersex symbol Lara Croft. Author Kathleen Tracy takes a look at Jolie's early years, including her childhood growing up as Jon Voight's daughter, her crush on Dr. Spock, and how she once dreamed of becoming a funeral director. The book traces Jolie's meteoric rise to fame fueled by the actress's eccentric behaviour and a reputation for being bold and slightly nuts that fans find endearing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, March 24, 2001

Since I first saw Angelina Jolie in 'Gia' a few years ago, I have been a big fan of her work. I am consistently impressed with her talent, honesty, silliness and beauty.

As an introduction to her work/ life, this book was great. However, any average fan (as most of the buyers are i'm sure) will already have read everything in this book from various past interviews.

It appears, that in her rush to capitalize on Jolie's fame, all Kathleen Tracy has done is link together numerous interviews into a novel format. I was disappointed to stumble across mispellings and grammatical errors that were obvious on the first read through.

One redeeming quality: a great selection of pictures

I hate to say this, but I have to agree with the other reviewers about this book. I read the reviews, but still bought the book. I was hoping that maybe someone would see the REAL Angelina Jolie, and write on that. I guess that's why this isn't an autobiography. It was a rehashing of articles from magazines, which may or may not be true. I'm so sick of hearing about knives, tatoos, her relationship with her brother,-all taken out of context. If anyone ever treated her with the respect she deserves, we might get the full story. The closest I've seen is when she was on Larry King. She seems to be a loyal, honest, monogomous person. I guess that would be too boring to print, or about her being a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. I hope one day that Angelina Jolie will write her own book. If it's anything like the journals I've read that she wrote while she was in Africa, it will make for more interesting reading than this book. The only new thing I read was about her father, but the book wasn't supposed to be on him. There was too much focus on other people and places, instead of on Angelina Jolie.

2.0 out of 5 stars 100 magazine articles, April 8, 2002

Why oh why did i buy this book? Oh yes... in a fit of madness i fell in love with angelina jolie and spent too much money on her dvd's and this book. I wish I had read marcia's review... this book has a gorgeous cover but inside is just a compilation of magazine articles and speculation. i would have given the book one star- but threw in the extra one for the highschool pics of angelina and this color pic that makes her look like a housewife. However if I were you- i wouldn't waste your money on this book for the pictures because there's not many. then again- we all have to learn from our own mistakes right?
