Disappointing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Angelo Blu (Audio CD)
Two and a half years after the release of their last CD, Neri Per Caso have returned to the Italian pop music scene with "Angelo Blu." Many fans of the six ragazzi from Salerno (especially those who fell in love with the group's music because of their enchanting contemporary a cappella style) may initially find the group's latest effort rather disappointing. Only two of the 13 tracks, "Good Morning Happiness" and the Beatles' "Here, There and Everywhere," are performed a cappella, and Mario's bass voice seems to be missing from most of the songs. One song that stands out is the relaxing "L'isola" (The island) written by Massimo De Divitiis, who also plays guitar on several tracks. The rest of the CD has sort of a non-distinctive boy band/Europop sound. It includes two Italian covers of once popular(?) songs in English -- the album's first single, "Sarà," an Italian cover of "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" by Tavares, and "Un Angelo Blu," a remake of a 1968 hit by Italian group Equipe 84 (the song itself an Italian version of "I Can't Let Maggie Go" by Honeybus). Probably with repeated listenings, "Angelo Blu" may even start to grow on the listener, but many long-time NPC fans already are looking forward to the next album -- hopefully, a return to a more recognizable Neri Per Caso a cappella sound.

Where are the a capella songs?,

A message to Neri per Caso: I am a big fan because you are the best a capella group ever. So, please, don't try to be another boys-pop-group. There are enough of those guys around and this is not what I expect from NPC.OK, the CD has TWO a capella songs, but, again, this is not why most people (outside Italy, at least) buy NPC CDs. They may be the Italian N'Sync, but if they go through this path NPC will be just another group around. I know it must be hard to come with one a capella CD after another but we waited for so long...

Some people said that "Angelo Blu" is not good because it's not an a capella album, but I don't think so. This is a great success of the trial to non-a cappella which failed in "Strumenti". In the album, they demonstrated their pleasure of music as usual.

I think this is an excellent album (as always). It's a little different , (un po' piú commerciale) maybe easier to listen because of the music but the voices are incredible, quality 100% and fresh music. The style does not change they are really great singers and musicians! I hope they could come to Mexico soon.! Thank you

Great harmony sound,

Another great album by this talented bunch but they have lost a little of the magic that made the first one so special. More instruments have infiltrated this time but still plenty of vocal harmony and a great version of Good Morning Sunshine. I won't desert you boys!!

This recent cd by Neri per Caso is a really nice development from their original a capella album. Mostly accompanied, the songs here offer new opportunies for the group to explore their vocal possibilites and create some new sounds. An interesting and varied selection of songs. The group's sound has developed and has become quite poppy, but they're obviously strong musicians. Funky tunes, excellent musicianship and sensitive arrangements make this a great cd and I am pleased to have bought it.
