Review

The second chapter, about the man who kidnapped Angelo, is brutal.... But the rest of the chapters are stories of all the people Angelo touched on his journey.... I truly enjoyed this book.... --Peggy's Pet Place peggyfrezon.blogspot.com/ and author of Dieting with My Dog, being released in fall, 2011

"...a great read and I recommend it for anyone looking for an exciting and inspirational book." --Eric Goebelbecker, noted dog trainer, Dog Spelled Forward, dogspelledforward.com

More About the Author

Leland lives in the middle of a beautiful nowhere that is Colorado's San Luis Valley. Angelo, the world famous Border Collie, and Maggie, his black Lab philosopher mix, allow him to share their off-grid home.

Angelo and Leland's first two collaborative efforts, Seven Dogs in Heaven and Angelo's Journey, are now available in Kindle, Audible, and paperback formats.

Their most ambitious book yet, Jimmy Mender and His Miracle Dog, is available in both Kindle and paperback editions. A story of journeys, of losses, of gains, it illustrates that sometimes the only way to find out what's important is to leave everything behind.

A true(sorta) story from an imaginative writer and set in the beautiful yet harsh South Western Colorado and New Mexico area of the US where a lot of dreams and fantasy's can come true as well as cause heartbreak. I love this dog and his story. Would enjoy a longer version with more details from this creative writer, yet, you can't go wrong if you spend a couple of bucks and enjoy this treat -- it will scare you, surprise you, and warm your heart.

With the wonderful weaving of different points of view, "Angelo's Journey" chronicles one dog's travels and the spiritual power of healing he shares along the way. Lassie has nothing on Angelo, who manages to find those who need him most. From those who are emotionally lost to those who need good, old-fashioned heroism to save their lives, the people Angelo meets along the way are individually affected by his courage and compassion. A must-read for any dog lover, and addicting from the first page to the last!

After reading some of the other reviews, I realized there is more to this book than an enjoyable read. It has started an interesting dialogue as to what constitutes a dog-lover's book. A good story is defined not only by being well-written, but by moving readers to think and discuss; question and debate. That being said, I started reading this book a couple of times, not sure myself if it was my cup of tea. What I found reading the book to the end was a real story, not a touchy-feely, fuzzy all over, straight to video piece. This is a simple, beautiful and real expression of the human (and dog) experience.

I loved it. It is a fascinating premise, to follow a dog home and have a snapshot into his experiences. All the characters along the journey are interesting, and I found myself really invested in some of them. But the big payoff is the end. There are few things in life as satisfying as a book with a good ending, and Angelo's Journey has a great one.

I have to admit to being somewhat of a cynic. Another book about a dog? Yuchh. But, I downloaded this story on a recommendation and was immediately charmed by the writing, and then absorbed by the story. Once I started, I couldn't put my Kindle down. There is wit, love, and a look at a world the way we'd like it to be. I liked it so much I had to order the hardcover copy. I definitely recommend this book to all the other cynics out there. It'll make you just a little more hopeful.

A story. A couple of stories - separate, but complementary to each other. Captivating, both keeping in tension and relaxing. A dramatization, a kind of fiction, but it's hard to resist the feeling that this all actually did happen. Why resist that possibility, anyway? It would be an irreparable waste!

Shame on me, but I usually don't read much all at once. "Angelo's Journey" broke this shameful habit spectacularly. Why?

First - because the book was written "by a Border Collie." I love these dogs very much, so it's impossible for me to skip such an item!

Second - it quickly became apparent, that the story is as intelligently designed as Border Collies are intelligent. Every chapter is a separate tale narrated by a different person who meets Angelo on his way. These are completely different people, in completely different situations, but each of them gains much from meeting him, including one whose life was saved... It makes reading very fascinating and addictive, especially since the author has shown his great ability to handle different styles, as the different characters narrate their stories.

Third - Leland Dirks - the man who has written "what Angelo has told him" - "the intermediary between Angelo and us" - is a person who loves dogs as much as I do, and he understands and sees them in a very similar way, so I just had to devour this work immediately.

Fourth - I had the good luck to be the first in Poland to own this book, which made me even more driven to read it.

I wasn't disappointed. I never expected I would be. Every expectation about this book has been fulfilled, or maybe even overfilled.

I had been waiting for this story for a while having watched the back story develop in real time. My anticipation was rewarded.
Leland's dog Angelo has disappeared and just when Leland has finally decided to try and move on .........

As each chapter unfolds you can see Leland's emotions unfold in the under-current of Angelo's adventures. The stages of emotions that Leland surely must have been feeling reveal themselves in the individual lives that Angelo touches. The formula is magic!!

I love this book. It was fun to know at least one of the characters and some of the "spots" mentioned in the story. Chapter 14 made me cry...and many of the chapters made me marvel, knowing how smart dogs are. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who loves dogs...or thinks they might!
