Book Description

A Regency Romance November 1995
Hoping to compel her parents into arranging her marriage to a desirable lord by pretending interest in someone less agreeable, Angelique Graham plots with local rake James Faring, only to find herself falling in love with him.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In an effort to frighten his fiancee's parents into allowing an early wedding, Simon Talbott convinces his devilish rakehell cousin, James Faring, the Marquis of Abbonley, to feign an interest in his fiancee, Lady Angelique Graham. The plan, however, works too well, and it takes a bit of doing before all the lovers in the game are properly aligned. Traditional, lighthearted, and predictable, this country Regency features several standards of the subgenre, including an engaging, hoydenish heroine, a reformed rake hero, a heroic rescue, and an aborted trip to Gretna Green. The dialog and relationship between the hero and heroine work, as do some of the secondary characters, including a great lummox of a dog. Enoch is also the author of The Black Duke's Prize (Avon, 1995).

More About the Author

A lifelong lover of books, Suzanne Enoch has been writing them since she learned to read. She is the author of two well-received Avon Regencies, The Black Duke's Prize and Angel's Devil, and five Avon Romances: Lady Rogue, Stolen Kisses, By Love Undone, Taming Rafe and Reforming a Rake. Born and raised in Southern California, Suzanne lives a few scant miles from Disneyland with her collection of Star Wars action figures and a Cairn terrier named Katie (after the heroine of her first Regency). She's still looking for her own hero, and hopes he will be handsome, titled, and just a little wicked. Meanwhile, she's currently at work inventing him in her next historical romance.

This is a light but darling romantic triangle. The very lovely and impatient Angelique Graham just knows she is in love with her darling Simon, but her parents are going to force her to wait nine months before they will even consider announcing the engagement.

Enter, Simon's scandalous rake of a cousin the disreputable Lord James Faring who is just home from the continent after a five year absence. He is recovering from wounds received in a war and wounds to his heart, but he is at once entranced with the little 'hoyden' Angelique from the moment they bumped into one another on the London docks.

After she finds out who he is - a plot is hatched to have James make overtures to her in front of her parents so that the parents would be happy to set an earlier date to save her from the clutches of 'the Devil'. As, things will get on, it doesn't take long for the game playing to become serious and Angelique finds out who she truly does love!

A darling story....very hard to come by but well worth the effort. You'll just love all the secondary characters, particulary Angeliques twin siblings - Henry and Helen, and the mastiff Brutus!

5.0 out of 5 stars SIGH! THIS STORY IS WONDERFUL!, March 27, 2000
This review is from: Angel's Devil (A Regency Romance) (Paperback)
I think I'm living in the wrong era! I absolutely loved this book - the period was described wonderfully - I felt like I was there!

Angelique, strong willed and impatient, was denied by her parents the speedy wedding she desperately wanted with her beloved Simon. So she hatches a plan, with the assistance of Simon's cousin ~aka~ The Devil. The Devil relunctanly agrees to pursue Angel in hopes of convincing her parents that a speedy wedding to Simon is the only safe option!

Will this harmless charade backfire on the Devil or the Angel?

This is a story about Angelique (Angel) and Lord James Faring (Devil) Angelique thinks she has found her beloved "Simon" but her parents are going to make her wait 9 months to marry him, So they decide to use the notorious rake Lord Faring in a plot to panic the parents into changing their mind, after all who wants their daughter to be courted by a rake? Well.... things dont go as planned and when Angel falls in love with Lord Faring things get mighty tricky. Lord Faring is ALL MAN he is sexy and very likable. The book is enjoyable from start to finish.
