--Reggie Jackson on facing Nolan Ryan "Grantland Rice, the great sportswriter, once said `It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game.' Well, Grantland Rice can go to hell as far as I'm concerned." --former Angels owner Gene Autry
Superstars like Nolan Ryan and colorful characters like Bo Belinsky dot the team's history, as do other names synonymous with greatness, like Vladimir Guerrero, Don Baylor, Jim Fregosi, Bartolo Colon, Rod Carew, and Troy Glaus. Milestone achievements, like Reggie Jackson's 500th home run and Mike Witt's perfect game, are part of that history as well. Angels Essential relives the pennant races, the triumphs, and the failures and introduces readers to the heroes, goats, villains, and flakes who have contributed to the history of this organization.
Whether you are a serious fan in search of previously undiscovered information or a casual fan looking to upgrade your status, Angels Essential gives you more of what you crave and serves it up on a most appetizing platter. There's trivia, special Top 10 lists, "what if" scenarios, and much more, all contained in the compelling story of a team and a franchise that in less than 50 years has established itself as one of the best in baseball.

Missed the mark,

This review is from: Angels Essential: Everything You Need to Know to Be a Real Fan! (Hardcover)
This book is somewhat annoying for many reasons. I will start with the compliments. The research is first rate and when it comes to topic like Nolan or Bo, it really goes far and beyond your expectations (which is good). The problem is as a new fan, the book really fails to capture the "essentials" of the Angels. This book is more like one man remembering what the angels were like and the moments of history that was special to him. In short, it's really random and has very little real thought here and there and the statistics are quite lacking. The only things that has some pattern is the chronological order of events. It picks out a random player and focuses on him the entire time during that point in history and really neglects the organization and the team itself. This may have been a good book to read if you wanted to know from a sport's casters point of view of certain aspects of angel's history... but in no way shape or form is this book an "Angels Essential" as in a beginner's guide to the Angels and its colorful history. After reading the book, you pretty much still don't know jack about the team and the organization. Just some events and players here and there. I've seen much better books out there.

The Best In MLB History,
This review is from: Angels Essential (Essential: Everything You Need to Know to be a Real Fan) (Kindle Edition)
The Angels are my favorite MLB team and always will be. I got my kindle touch this christmas and santa broght me the wrong cover for my kindle. He got me one for the regular cheap kindle. I asked my dad if we can go to Target and return it and get one RED.That is one way I love the Angels. And there is a lot more reasons but I dont want to waist my energy on typing it after all I have done already. Anyway, thanks for reading.
