ANGELS conjures up the beauty and spiritual nature that these heavenly beings are, however, in this story angels are demons as well as the lost spirits of the dead. With romance as a backdrop, the author takes us on a paranormal course in mysticism, danger and sensual romance.

The story begins with a murder victim with unusual puncture marks on his neck. Ameil Le Dutierre, the lead detective in the case, realizes he has no true leads and people are still dying, so he does not object to our heroine, Kayla Hazelwood, an African-American psychologist, being enlisted to help solve these crimes. Even after following a lead to an underground gothic club, the two find they need more assistance because what they are dealing with may not be human. They are led to Dr. Connor Biantagglia, a paranormal psychologist.

The three set out on a course to stop the destruction, but along the way something unusual happens to Ameil, and they realize they must solve the murders alone. The forces they are dealing with are beyond Kayla's comprehension, but Connor reassures her that they will solve these unique serial murders. As Kayla and Connor continue to work together, sparks of romance ignite between the two. They are drawn to each other by lust but find spiritual love is within their grasps. They partner not only to demystify paranormal occurrences but to strengthen their love.

ANGELS was a very different read. The paranormal events, demonic sacrifices and ghosts of lost souls are not the usual elements in a romantic story; however, it really helped to make the story interesting. The novel is a bit difficult to sustain your attention in the beginning, but it does improve with perseverance. The author wants you to really feel the romance between the two main characters, but because of the weak character development and at times stilted dialogue, the romance is stiff and unbelievable. The lust generated by the characters was more believable. While the romance was one-dimensional, the paranormal essence of the story was great.

ANGELS by Gwendolyn R Morris is a paranormal romantic suspense novel. Kayla Hazelwood and Dr. Connor Biantagglia are interesting characters.

Kayla is a forensic psychologist who's been called in by the police to assist in solving a case involving strange murders. The murders are so bizarre that she needs the assistant of Connor, a paranormal psychologist.

From the moment these two meet, sparks fly. They share a love of the human mind and that's where their similarities end. They come from two different cultures and economical backgrounds. However, the strange happenings pull them closer together.

Their lives are in jeopardy as they attempt to save not only themselves but the world from any more horrendous crimes caused by these supernatural forces.

If you're into the paranormal, I would highly recommend ANGELS. If you aren't, Ms. Morris has done such a great job making the supernaturla genre so enjoyable that you are going to become a fast fan of it.

I enjoyed this book with its unusual format. It was romantic and exciting. The love scenes were hot without being pornographic. I look forward to additional work by this author. I also enjoyed her book Nubian Passion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice story, July 10, 2006

I liked this book alot. The characters were interesting and I found the story to be interesting as well. The love scenes were hot. There were a couple of surprises in the story. And, I wonder if anyone else caught the clue hidden in one of the characters' names.

3.0 out of 5 stars Angels or Demons, March 8, 2006

This is an IR story where race is not an issue in the story and I commend Ms Morris for making it so. We need more such stories of strong black women.
This is actually 2 stories maskerading as one. It's the story of a black forensic psychologist and a white paranormal psychologist. The first story is when they meet on a police investigation that at first looks to be that of a serial killer but turns out to be something else. Children who look like angels but when they kill turn into demons. The first story attempts to explore their budding relationship, the sexual scenes are very well done, as is the sexual attraction, however, a loving long lasting type of relationship didn't really develop for me. A strong romance between the characters just wasn't there. Lust yes love no. Maybe because the character development was lacking. We learn a little about the heros background but I still am unsure of where the heroine is coming from.

Which is probably why there is yet a second story to try to further the relationship. After the couple figure out and stop the Angels/Demon CHILDREN they move on. They are now a paranormal team. The second story is about the couple trying to solve the mystery of a haunted house. There is also a substory about a town that didn't really take off and was somewhat confusing to me. I struggled through most of this book, especially the second part because the dialog was so boring. I ended up glossing over quite a bit because I was determined to finish it. I think Ms. Morris had a good idea but it never really lived up to its potential. I would read this book only when you are between books with nothing else to read and I would borrow it from the library or buy it previously owned. I'm trading mine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good grief!, April 6, 2006

This had to be the most poorly written, too too politically correct piece that I've ever read. The characters were phony, dull, and seemed unable to ever decide what they want to do and with whom. Ugh! A real stinker

You know people need to get a dictionary and look up the word romance. This book had nothing to do with romance. It was just another erotic, paranormal piece of garbage. Yes, I did finish it. Afterall, I wasted my money on it. No more Gwendolyn Morris for me. Hopefully, she'll find an editor that will tell her the truth because this is just another example of a publisher printing anything.

I saw this and then special ordered this book since I really enjoy reading books of interracial romance and fiction , I was extremely dissapointed in this book .
The writing was below what I have come to expect and wish to see from any author.
The story in and of itself was not bad .. But the Authors use of language leaves something to be desired
and I hope that it improves before another book is written

5.0 out of 5 stars Juicy Romance, January 17, 2006
This review is from: Angels (Paperback)
I enjoyed this romance story. The lovers were interesting and the entire story was very different. I suppose there are as many ideas in this world of what constitutes a romance as there are romances. Some progress slowly and build. Others are highly erotic from the very beginning. But, who are we to judge the romance of someone else just because it does not fit our personal concept of what a romance should be? The romance belongs to the people involved. It's THEIR romance, however it plays out.
