This is one awesome and touching book. I read it straight through and both laughed and cried. What I loved, though, is how the author parsed religion from God. The message of hope is strong. It, obviously, comes from someone who has grappled with the darkness [and the light] that we all must to face.
Do Not Buy This Book IF... you just want to swing by church each Sunday or make your charitable donations for the tax year. But, if you want a good read and a glimpse at one person's road to inner happiness, READ THE BOOK!

Angels in the Landfill
by Carlynn ISBN #978-1-4401-2114-2 Though described as a collection of essays, I felt while reading this truly inspirational book that it is more along the lines of a memoir. Through the well-written chapters, the reader is taken along for the journey the author has endured. It's a collection of memories and passions deeply felt by and/or experienced by the author. Carlynn has been through so much in life already. Most of us will, in our lifetimes, experience only a small dose of what this author has and yet, each page, each story, reveals the uplifting soul of the heart behind the words. Through sadness, joy, and a passion for the gifts the Lord has bestowed upon us, the author sheds light on the many areas of life we normally might walk by, unnoticed by the naked eye, and though not unscathed, she has miraculously risen above it all--triumphant with an even deeper faith. I found this to be a truly inspirational and informative read, where not only are we shown the troubled life of the author, but a deeper, more passionate side of her insight into the wonders of the world, blessings given to us, and everything about the author which makes up her uniqueness. I'd highly recommend this book, no matter the reader's preference, as it touches on so many areas of interest, tugging at our heartstrings, instilling a deeper faith, a broader vision and a defining realism and perspective. reviewed by: Cindy Bauer The Memory Box Trilogy (Chasing Memories, Shades of Blue and Crystal Clear)

A Remarakable Collection of Essays,
This review is from: Angels in the Landfill: Mixed Blessings and Saving Graces (Paperback)
This author has traveled a journey few of us can imagine. She has come through on the wings of angels through faith, laughter and a deep and abiding love of God. It was not an easy path to follow but perserverance prevailed and this collection of essays is a marvelous testament to that! A must read for all and a wonderful gift of inspiration for all of us that need the very words Carlynn has written.

Angels....terrific book, funny and also meditative,

if you enjoy nature, dogs, children, horses, gardeinging, funny stories, LOL funny stories, sad but hopeful stories, you'll LOVE this book. (and the first story explains the unique title) i think its a great read. and seems to be getting really good reviews too. its all short stories, i think the longest one is about ?8 pages. this writer's daughter (20 years old, domestic violence) was killed, so it would also be a good book for anyone surviving that nightmare of losing a kid, sheesh.
but also she talks about her faith and how it helped her get thru - that and music, medication and learning to meditate, etc. but not preachy-preachy! she's also BIG into nature it seems, i liked her writing, really beautiful and kinda like Thoreau. really i'd recommend it for just about anyone, Christian or not. she gives a nod to the fact that all religions are about truth, and imo also that formal worship is not necessary as long as we appreciate creation and what-all God made. cant' say enough about this book. i think its geared more toward women than men...but still i can think of a few guys who might like to read it. and she doesnt preach or gay-bash or whatnot, just all about love and peace, what Jesus taught in his teachings. i dont have a product link...i think, um....iuniverse is where i got it, but also saw it in a local bookstore and may have seen it on ebay too. might be a good christmas gift.

Carlynn is a fresh voice for a new generation. Reading Angels In The Landfill is like listening to a friend recall a life-changing experience. Carlynn's inviting style of writing makes you feel like you are sitting next to her on the banks of a gurgling stream captivated by her every word.
As a Theologian, what surprised me the most, was her deep insight into spiritual issues. Throughout this book she opens up and offers a glimpse into tragedies that gave her pause to consider whether or not God exists and if He does, why such pain and grief would befall her. Unwilling to succumb to disbelief, she chose to rise above pain, abuse, death, and injustice to confidently stand strong in her belief. If you combined Thoreau, Annie Dillard (Pilgrim At Tinker's Creek), and James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small) sprinkled with the salt of spirituality, you will get Angels In The Landfill. It will give you cause to stop, cry, laugh, and consider life in a new light. I believe Angels In The Landfill is the new "Walden". It is destined to become a classic. |
