Editorial Reviews

EDHELS is probably the only Progressive rock band ever to have come from Monte-Carlo. And to make things better, it’s also one of the very best representatives of this style to have come out during the second half of the Eighties. Actually, it had already existed since the previous decade, but had to wait until 1986 to finally issue its first album called "Oriental Christmas". It performs a truly personal music between jazz-rock fusion and instrumental Progressive rock. CAMEL, Mike OLDFIELD or JADE WARRIOR could be good points of comparison, if taken loosely. Marc CECCOTI’s guitar sounds naturally blend into what could be called the French school of the Nineties, represented also by the likes of MINIMUM VITAL, Jean-Pascal BOFFO and ECLAT: a typical sound, solos that feel airy, lyrical and complex. After the performance that "Still Dream" (1988) represented, their third album "Astro-Logical" (1991) proves more experimental and dissonant, even though it still holds to the same style as its predecessors. Back on familiar ground, "Angel’s Promise" (1997) sees the end of the monopolistic domination of instrumental music, given that three tracks are sung in English. This major work is marked by elegant, emotional and powerful music full of nuances. Four absolutely indispensable albums !
