While delivering some scathing insights into the Mormon church, Irvine burdens his mystery with red herrings, false clues, long quotes from LDS scriptures and a surprise, hard-to-believe solution.

The rather austere backdrop of Salt Lake City matches the relatively uncluttered style of author Irvine's latest Moroni Traveler adventure. Hired to locate a missing Mormon missionary, Traveler immediately runs afoul of the Mormon power structure until a connected series of gruesome prostitute murders forces a consolidation of effort. When the crazed murderer subsequently snatches Traveler's girlfriend, he battles time and the heat to save her. A convincing, moderately paced, and straightforward entertainment, complete with human interest sidelines.
