Book Description

May 15, 2009
Private detective Fitzroy Maclean Angel is not your ordinary private detective. The world he inhabits is strange and it is about to get stranger.

A new born baby means no more cases, no more fingerprinting and no more espionage and, with the arrival of his aging, hippy mother, he has swapped bloodstains for paint stains. Domesticity, or the lack of it, has replaced his high-paced, crime-solving lifestyle. That is, of course, apart from the AWOL screenwriter whose mother's funeral he must attend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mike Ripley hits his stride with this latest Angel book, December 14, 2009

I've been a fan of Mike Ripley's Angel series for years now. I was getting a little impatient with Angel's married status - I liked the old funky crew in Hackney and found them much more interesting than his wife and the co-workers at the detective agency - and with this book he gets a little less domestic and a little more back to being the Angel we know and love. It's a darned good mystery to boot - I enjoyed it immensely! I enjoyed the whole thing immensely, and appreciated the Springsteen portion. Perfect! (I won't got into detail, as other long time Angel fans will want to read this for themselves and I don't want to give away too much.) Also, the reappearance of some of my favorite Angel cohorts was most welcome. I hope they continue to turn up to add spice to lighten up Angel's domestic stodginess - and some plots now that M.R. has gotten back into his stride. I missed the Angel of old - and think this is a perfect blend of the new and old Angel. Thank goodness our dear Binky and Lizabeth are back in the game - characters who need to come out and join us on a regular basis. The Angel books have always been more about character than plot, and it isn't fair to create great characters and then leave them out! At the same time, this may be the best plot in any Angel book so far - so I'm delighted to hand out much deserved 5 stars and hope Mr. Ripley will keep on bringing us more Angel books until poor Fitzroy has to go hunting in his wheel chair and use a genuine handicap sticker on Armstrong 2. Thanks for this delightful book, I can't wait for the next one.
