This cd is a collection of spirituals and hymnals. Most of the tunes are pretty familiar, but I've never heard someone perform them like Denyce Graves. She has a unique style and quality in her voice that is absolutely fabulous. Even if you've heard other opera singers do these songs (Kathleen Battle, Jessye Norman, etc.), trust me when I say that you have not really experienced this type of music. Graves' interpretation of "Give Me Jesus" gives me chills every time I hear it and honestly puts every other interpretation I've heard to shame. You will definitely be satisfied with this cd and if not, I'll be happy to take it off your hands! :)

I bought this CD years ago and still listen to it. I recently gave it as a birthday gift. It contains more selections than most CDs, and they are all rich and wonderful. She sings these spirituals with operatic perfection and deep religious feeling. This is one of my all-time best purchases.
