A disgrace to DUSTOFF,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Angels With Whirly Wings "Dust Off": Vietnam '67 (Paperback)
I can't verify, but it appears to me that this guy must have applied for PTSD after flying only 25 hrs (1 air medal) with the 3/498th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) DUSTOFF and figured he'd turn his momentary onlooker trauma experience documentation for PTSD compensation into a book. It even includes his Form 214, a page about life before Vietnam, a page about life after Vietnam and a page or two each about his "trauma" experiences in Vietnam. There are a few pages that appear to have been copied from documents outlining the effects that one might be expected to exhibit to be diagnosed with PTSD.
There is terrible editing, misspelled words, i.e., "he saw yellow snake" -meaning "smoke"", etc, and many examples of a typist who probably didn't know the "lingo" and who typed from the sound of the word. The book has only 26! pages of text that covers over 1/4 page -- many pages with little text, for book expansion, I presume. The book has 112! pages of photos, many duplicated (thrown in) to make a thicker book, Most photos are not related to DUSTOFF. This "PTSD documentation book" is a disgrace to all DUSTOFFer crewmen, especially those with whom he flew so briefly as they personally dealt, hands-on, with the trauma that he happened to observe fleetingly in passing. There are too many "so-called" PTSD veterans at the compensation trough who are causing the legitimate troops to suffer due to limited medical resources. Publishers shouldn't allow this travesty --- Armond "Si" Simmons 104 Wadsworth Lane Pell City, AL 35128 205 338 7378 DUSTOFF '64-'65 '69-'70 |
