5.0 out of 5 stars The Hunter Is Captured, December 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Angels Do Have Wings (Sealed With A Kiss) (Harlequin Romance) (Paperback)
I'm very fond of the old, old Harlequin Romances, & I read books written in the 1940's to 2009, I like the older books because there is less sexual content in them, but the book is an exception. Although not in front of me, although we see they are leading up to the confrontation of sexual contact, Hunter or Angel always stop just before they get in too involved.

Now I'm not really a prude, I just don't like reading about people having sex, if I wanted to do that I could go to an adult book store and get pornographic books and get all the sex I want. The reason I read romance, Harlequin Romance to be more precise, is because I like romance period.

The older books have this quality, but I often find that they make up for the lack of sex by making the alpha male mean, cold, abusive or even stupid, like books by Violet Winspear, old Margaret Way books, Kerry Allyne and old Flora Kidd books.

Now this book has a very bright man, who is dumber than a box of rocks, in fact he is cool as cucumber, but only on the outside, and he has Angel fooled.

I knew he lost his battle with his alter ego when his altruism comes out about her old Mini he wracked into, trying to miss hitting her kid brother Toby.

Angel and Toby have been orphaned, and at 24 Angelina has taken on her shoulders her 12 yr-old brother and all his preteen problems. This includes running in front of Hunter Ryan's car trying to catch his school bus.

Hunter is upset by this, and well he should be, but Angel doesn't give him time to tell her what happened, she just goes in all guns blazing.

Even when Angel learns Toby was the one in the wrong, she still rags Hunter about his being rich, and the fact that she and her brother are not.

Although this isn't Hunter's fault or his problem he takes it upon himself to repair her wracked Mini.

Suddenly this healthy rambunctious young Toby is struck down with heart problems, but guess what, that is what Hunter is a specialist at.

And so Hunter gives Toby the benefit of his expertise and Angel the run of his home, his apartment and soon his life.

This tiny amazon conquers his heart, and he never had a fighting chance.

From the back of the book: 'Dear Vicky, Things are just the same here. My life is mapped out for years ahead without a chance of anything changing...

As she wrote those words to her best friend, Angel had no idea that a gorgeous stranger was about to turn her world upside down!

Hunter Ryan was rich and famous, surely not the kind of man to look twice at Angel? Yet he was a rock to lean on when her younger brother fell sick; and soon his face began to haunt her dreams...

He teased Angel for not living up to her name-if only he'd realize his was the first man ever to touch her heart!'

Nlow let me point out that had Diana Palmer been writing this book, we would have had Angel's friend Vicky meeting Craig Hammond, and watching sparks fly between them etc.

Okay, I do like Diana Palmer, even though her books are like a how-to on sex. I also like Betty Neels, Eva Rutland, Jessica Steele and Susan Fox. I do read Love Inspired and Grace Livingston Hill.

But they are so churchy that I revert back to my old faithful Harlequin Romance writers like Ms Rutland, Ms Steele, and Ms Fox, I also might include Mary Burchell, Susan Barrie, Elizabeth Barnes, Essie Summers, Margery Hilton, Pamela Kent, Jane Corrie, Dorothy Cork, Nan Asquith, Catherine Airlie, Juliete Armstrong, Jean S MaCleod, Margaret Malcolm, Debby Macomber, Arlene James, Marcy Gray. I'll stop there because I have over 7000 books. My point is I like romance books not sex manuals.
