3.0 out of 5 stars Angels, Women, and Typos...., April 4, 2004
This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
I was fortunate enough to read the full story behind this by contacting the editor, Jim Rizoli. After having finally had the time to sit down and digest this rich piece of fiction, I am most curious to see if I can get my hands on the original novel, because this book seemed to have a number of strikingly modern conceptions of what life before the Deluge might have been like.

Told from a first-person point of view in journal format, this beautifully descriptive book gives us a glimpse--and just a glimpse--of a gorgeous world, and the deceptive allure of sin. My only complaint is that which I have repeated for many self-published books, and that is that the editor/author could have used the services of a grammarian. The number of typos and grammatical errors were sufficient to distract me from the story, but only temporarily.

Overall, one of the most effective pieces of antediluvian fiction, in terms of being able to describe an alien and credible culture.

This book, Angels and Women, gives the reader another understanding to a Biblical event only hinted at in the Bible account at Genesis 6:1-5

Upon reading Angels and Women one comes to a greater understanding of what it may have been like to be living back there when evil was so bad on the earth that God had to step in to destroy the wicked inhabitans, only leaving Noah, his family and a host of animals in the Ark.

Who were these "Sons of God" that the Bible only hints at? This book gives you the answer. You can only imagine what the world would have been like if these "Sons of God" continued to use their angelic minds for good. Computers, space travel and other earthly wonders could have been within grasp thousands of years ago.
If there was any book that should be made into a movie it would be this one. Its a combination of Indiana Jones, Romeo and Juliet, with a lot of the Last days of Pompeii and Atlantis. This book would be a great one for Oprah.

A must read for those interested in finding out the big question which is, who possibly were the "Sons of God" mentioned in the Bible at Gen 6:1-5?

Joe

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply absorbing - you won't forget reading this one, June 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
If you're a Bible reader, you will absolutely never forget reading this book. It has such details and is so thought provoking, that you really tend to believe that this is the way it must have been before the flood. Everything fits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angels and Women of the First Revised Edition June, 1924, April 7, 2001
This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me when I was a young man in my twenties, and I found it to be very difficult to forget the interest in the time before the flood of Noah's day. It took the death of a very dear friend to make available an old edition of this book. I will read this one over and over, as it is not in any conflict with the truth as told in the Bible account, and adds some details that might very well be true. I will recommend any one that is a Bible student to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story to open you imagination, February 15, 2003
This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
Trite but true is the saying , "Truth is stranger than fiction." Fiction sometimes illuminates the truth. This book helps people get a better understanding of the Antedelutian account because of its rich detail. The scriptural account is so small, but it opens one's mind to the possibilities. Some references in the novel relate to recent scientific discoveries, which make it all the more interesting. What people don't realize is that this novel was originally written in 1878, ahead of its time. I recommend new readers and old ones to compare the different editions so as to get a full understanding. Buy the 2000 edition first, then move onto the original called, "Seola" written by Mrs. J. Gregory Smith in 1878, it has some fantastic differences that are quite thought provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't out it down!, November 29, 2001

Thank you for the Angels and Women Book I loved it! I couldn't put it down, I loved the language and brilliant descriptions of decorated rooms and beautiful clothes. What an imagination the writer had. But most of all I enjoyed the way God spoke to us through this book. I know He inspired the writing, His messages were so clear, evil will not survive, faithfullness will; prayers are answered; especially prayers for others. Forgiveness can be obtained, and redemption won (Hesperus!) and many more. I think the writer was also a bit of a feminist. the character of Aloma was such an opposite of eve, it was almost like she was trying to convince us that all women weren't like Eve. Thank you again for the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Truth or Fiction Inspired by?, June 29, 2011

This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
This is a very well written book that has caught the fascination of many. Based on the Genesis account from the Holy Bible before the great flood of Noah's day when Satan and the fallen angels took for themselves as wives, the beautiful daughters of fleshly man.
This book is supposedly a long lost diary of Aloma, or Seola, the wife of Noah's youngest son Japheth.
This diary was found next to the bones of Two bodies in a hidden cave near Mt.Ararat. It was written on linen and neatly placed inside a cylinder that was untouched by oxygen and the elements for Thousands of years.
What is revealed in this book is very thought provoking and leaves one wondering throughout the whole story; Is this real? This could of happened or, This is exactly the way it was in a pre-flood world.
This is a must read and will leave you wondering; How could Mrs. J.G. Smith have thought this up. Was she inspired? if so, by whom did she receive this?

5.0 out of 5 stars AS good as I remember it., July 7, 2010

This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
Though written in totally purple prose, as was the writing style of the day, this was as good as I remember from reading my grandmother's copy 50 years ago. Maybe not 100% Biblically accurate, but very thought provoking of the issues and emotions of the beings populating the earth at that time. Totally recommend,

This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
An especially interesting read due to its age, reprinted and renamed. Unlike any other books on the origin of the Nephilim, Angels and Women explores the dynamics of how the angels may have enticed the women to cohabit in accordance with Genesis 6. This of course is a fictional account involving the generations that existed prior to the great flood of Noah's day, but may also have happened afterward, and may yet still...The Ninth Generation: Conquering the Giants

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story, December 7, 2005
This review is from: Angels and Women (Paperback)
I just finished it and loved this book. Although it is fictional there is so much truth within.
Also the undying faith that the heroin of the story has in God is truly inspiring.
I wish the book were longer, but it was rather meaty for such a shortish story in comparison to many modern-day novels.
Definitely a good read for Bible readers everywhere (and anyone else with an open mind)
