4.0 out of 5 stars FAMOUS for being FAMOUS
This is a well-made video documentary about notorious Hollywood starlet Angelyne.
Angelyne is a life-size Barbie doll of a woman who is legendary throughout Los Angeles
for her billboards. Billboards which feature her image and her name ...and nothing else.

She has her own fan club, her own website, and she's famous.
She doesn't do...

1.0 out of 5 stars Ludicrous and all lies
Angelyne, an elderly lady, with no ambition other than being famous-- had everything to do with this documentary. NOTHING is spontaneous. It is all pre-arranged. This "documentary" is what she would WANT you to believe, not the facts. It is shot in black and white, because color would show her as she really looks, which is nothing like her wildly air-brushed billboards...

for her billboards. Billboards which feature her image and her name ...and nothing else.

She doesn't do anything. She's just famous.

This stylish and surreal, black and white documentary features interviews with Angelyne,
her financial backer, her fan club president, and a devoted fan from Sweden
who has traveled all the way to Los Angeles specifically to meet her.

Watch as Angelyne shops for lingerie, lounges by the poolside,
and discusses Barbie dolls with her therapist! Listen as Angelyne muses
about "higher consciousness" and how being famous gives her "an endorphin rush!"

This documentary does a wonderful job at raising our curiosity by giving us sneak peaks
at the Angelyne phenomena without ever telling us the full story.

You'll either get it, or you won't.
I did. After watching this video, I joined her fan club.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST *STAR* !, October 13, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Angelyne [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This petite documentary gives just a glimpse of the fabulous, ultimate nuclear blonde bombshell Angelyne. Though not all that well known, to her fans, and to the people of Los Angeles, she is as well know and representative of "Hollywood" as the Hollywood Sign, The Walk Of Fame, or Graumans Chinese. To those who dismiss her as simply an inflated stripper- like show off...how wrong they are! She inhabits another dimension. She is as scantily dressed as the law allows, yet, she is haughty. Her Blondeness has no past, no credentials, no talent, nor any ambition to. She is simply famous for being famous. Like Venus rising from the foam, she arrived fully formed to walk the earth, her perfection devestating all those in her path. She makes Russ Meyer's Edy Williams (remember her?) look like Elanora Duse. Since the 1980's, when she appeared out of nowhere, she has been tooling around Los Angeles in her hot pink corvette, which is replaced with a new one almost yearly, haunting the likes of The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and Frederick's Of Hollywood. She was first viewed in a series of mysteriously financed billboards promoting only herself, and which are still produced today.... they are part of the Hollywood landscape. She rarely gives interviews, and, when she does, she is mono-sylabic, uninterested, vague, or just unable. Her main concern is what's in it for her. It's debatable as to whether she has a brain in her head at all, or, is really just totally, springs-popping-out-of-head cuckoo. She LIVES for fame, and revels in Hollywood history, where the ghosts of her beloved Jayne and Marilyn still inhabit the smog- filled air. Real life is of no interest to her, with her apartment, though not seen here, little more than a place to keep her "Angelyne" drag. She rarely smiles,... she is to be VISUALIZED, that is her purpose in life. She is almost never approachable. She is a STAR! Should you DARE to try and get closer, she will put up her wall. We live in a Pop Culture- celebrity worshiping society. What better representative is there of the place where nothing is real, restaurants are shaped like hot dogs, and serial killers abound, than Angelyne, who does not pretend to be anything more than self-promoting hype? None of this pretentious aspiring to art. She does not take dancing, acting, or singing lessons. There were no years of struggling for bit parts, no casting couch humiliations. She has no need to "improve". She simply "is". How refreshing! This 25 minute film, which is in somewhat grainy black and white, follows the divine one around L.A., shopping, sunbathing, and meeting a worshipper or two. Pursuing Angelyne is a past time for many in L.A., with an "Angelyne Sighting", as they are called, as rare and coveted as an alien encounter. There is actually a web site devoted entirely to those who have had such sightings, and their reactions range from total awe, to shock at what many say is a bizarre, aged enigma, a "Baby Jane" with monstrous breasts. Though unsubstantiated,(like everything else about her) she is reported to have had enough plastic surgery as to make Michael Jackson appear normal. That the chances of ever seeing The Goddess are rare, your best bet is to get this video. It's like viewing a car wreck, you just can't look away. Worship her up close, or, worship her from afar. Just.... worship her. It's what she lives for.

Angelyne, an elderly lady, with no ambition other than being famous-- had everything to do with this documentary. NOTHING is spontaneous. It is all pre-arranged. This "documentary" is what she would WANT you to believe, not the facts. It is shot in black and white, because color would show her as she really looks, which is nothing like her wildly air-brushed billboards. In truth, she was undoubtedly born here in L.A. (not a sad little girl from Idaho) and was unsuccessful at acting and music. Nearing 48 years old, in 1987 she made a deal with the owner of a billboard company, who was clearly smitten with her breasts. The mansion in this video is NOT hers, as she is not at all wealthy, as is commonly believed. She has lived for close to 30 years, in a small apartment off of Sunset Blvd. Her fan club has very, very few members as she was basically a one year wonder. Her exaggerations of her fame are also untrue. Her billboards have ONLY been here in hollywood, not in other cities or countries. This video is worthless, as there are no facts and you learn absolutely nothing.
