Practice-Driven Recovery Plan for Anger Addicts, September 22, 2005
This review is from: The Anger Busting Workbook: Simple, Powerful Techniques for Managing Anger & Saving Relationships (Paperback)
Too much of what the psychotherapy/self help industry turns out relies heavily on hand-holding, navel-gazing, and fishing expeditions into childhood that can last for years. This approach rarely appeals to men, and it is practically useless when dealing with rageaholics. A-la Dr. Phil, James Baker delivers a kind of in-your-face, step-by-step plan to help anger addicts get an immediate reduction in their level of inappropriate anger. It is filled with practial exercises and down-to-earth language that will challenge angry men to face themselves and quit blaming everyone else for their anger. It also provides a very helpful section for women, to help them figure out how to make safe choices with angry men. The flexible format makes it great for use in a variety of therapeutic settings.

Saved my marriage, August 10, 2010
This review is from: The Anger Busting Workbook: Simple, Powerful Techniques for Managing Anger & Saving Relationships (Paperback)
Hmmm...where to begin. My wife had left me and it looked as if there was no hope of getting back together. We were on the path to divorce. She left because I had serious anger issues and was a very unpleasant individual. I had to do something! I bought The Anger Busting Workbook...and, my wife is back! It works! I still follow the lessons today. For any man in this situation..don't wait! This book may not be for everyone, but it worked for me. While my wife was away, I emailed her everyday to let her know what lesson I was working on. She told me later, that even in an email, she could tell I was becoming more positive and happy. I'm not saying that this is the cure all for a bad marriage..every situation is different..but it can work if you follow the lessons and don't give up.

more self help than you might want, February 6, 2008
This review is from: The Anger Busting Workbook: Simple, Powerful Techniques for Managing Anger & Saving Relationships (Paperback)
[[ASIN:188629819X James Baker, Anger busting Workbook: Simple, Powerful Techniques for Managing Anger & Saving Relationships]. What first interested me in this book were the step by step lists for behaviours to watch and change, and expectations for both the angry person and the person living with the anger. Having the book available online to read before buying is how I became aware of the helps it includes. That said, I wonder if it is useful for most angry men without the help of a third person (psychologist) in real life. The men whose difficulty is the subject of this book, may resort to a backlash against it, in their house, thus, putting the spouse at greater risk. If a spouse thinks this may apply to her, I recommend finding it in a library. The author, Baker, recommends getting the help of a local support whether psychology or other. The book emphasizes a particular kind of expression of anger which is particularly destructive to the partner, thus the suggestions to keep taking steps to change, and to get the kind of help needed is essential. This very urgency and extreme case types may scare off some who could use most of the suggestions, but for whom a court order for anger management is not an issue. This book is thorough in the situational possibilities for manipulative anger in everyday life, and for dealing with these in a way that moves both the angry person and the person coping with excessive anger, to find ways to truly improve their lives, for some, by learning to stop the destructive expressions, and for others, to leave. The helps continue with how to safely leave. A resource to reread, carefully.
