Life Changing!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Anger Is a Choice (Paperback)
I have struggled with anger from the time I was a child. It's to the point now where I am desperate for change. It was that desperation that caused me to pick up this book. I loved the way the authors used real life examples and charts and diagrams. I also got so much out of the self-tests. The section on temperment was very eye opening for my personally. I definitely found my own temperment. But most of all, this book not only gives hope of real change, it lays out a process of getting there. The problem is neither quick nor easy, but it is possible. I recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not who has struggled with anger. I've read several books on the subject and this is one of the best books out there. It does not just deal with the symptoms of anger, but helps you get to the root cause of your anger. This is one book that I know I will refer to time and time again.

Dealing with Anger in a Positive Way,
This review is from: Anger Is a Choice (Paperback)
"A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is his glory to overlook an offense." ~ Proverbs 19:11
Anger is a very damaging emotion. It could lead to your death or the death of someone you love. This is especially true when someone experiences out-of-control anger and they express their emotions physically. Tim Lahaye and Bob Phillips explore all the ways anger manifests itself in society (media rage, school rage, sports rage) and briefly talk about how anger appears in more subtle forms like resentment and in body language. To be honest this book is the most detailed account of anger I've ever read. There are also some excellent practical techniques for dealing with strong emotions. One of the most interesting parts of this book is the section on how the four basic temperaments deal with anger. You will instantly recognize yourself or someone you love. In the end "Anger is a Choice" is not about never feeling anger again it is about learning to deal with anger in a positive way. One of the things I've found most helpful in regard to anger is to immediately do something positive for the person you are angry with. In combination with conjuring up a feeling of love and forgiveness this will dissolve any anger you may have. It seems to me that love and negative emotions cannot reside in a body at the same time because love takes over. Negative emotions can also obviously ruin your health so they are to be avoided at all costs. If you are struggling with anger then this book will also give you advice on how to find a good counselor. While the ideas in this book may be effective enough to get your anger under control there is something to be said for having someone to talk to about what you are feeling. Here are some additional books I've reviewed that are very helpful: The Healing Power of Anger: The Unexpected Path to Love and Fulfillment Anger Busting 101: The New ABC's for Angry Men & the Women Who Love Them ~The Rebecca Review

I have had an anger problem since my youth. This book has helped me tremendously in dealing with it righteously. It helped me see that my reaction to the disposition to "lose the handle" is ultimately my choice and I, with God's help, can control my temper. It is definitely worth reading this book!

Are you easily annoyed or irritated?,
This review is from: Anger Is a Choice (Paperback)
If you are someone who is in the nasty habbit of getting easily annoyed or irritated with others, then this is the book for you! You will be shockingly surprised to learn that these are types of anger and that your anger is nothing more than that: a nasty HABBIT that can be reversed! Most angry people think that anger is just part of their personality or a natural (and even healthy) reaction to the stimulus of the world around them. Tim LaHaye teaches you this is not so! Anger is indeed a choice you make! I enjoy reading books by Tim LaHaye- he is very good. If you are not Christian, there may seem to be a lot of "preachy," born-again lingo and gospel subjects thrown in. But reguardless, they are ever-true principles, no matter what your may believe. He uses lots of examples from his own life and folks he councils professionally.
Tim suggests the most amazingly easy formula for those who feel like they've fallen "out of love" with their spouse. It's so simple you will laugh yourself silly once you see that it works. The answer lies in doing selfless acts of service and kind acts for your spouse (even when they don't reciprocate). This in turn stirs feelings of love and respect for the giver. Amazing. Beautiful. This book is well written. I would recommend it to anyone who is ready to face their anger head-on and make a change for the better. |
