5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
If think that the "bribe and threaten" method of discipline (euphemistically known as 'giving consequences')might be doing harm to your relationship to your child and their development, you are right! Read this book, and learn a saner way that works. You will feel enormous relief as will your kids, and be much more effective than you ever thought possible. The book really...

2.0 out of 5 stars Kid Cooperation is MUCH better
Cold, too analytical and no practical means of employing the changes he suggests except to just 'do it'. Bought this book and Kid Cooperation which I found to be clear, common sense, multiple-option resource for you and your child. Only a few things I don't agree with, such as not rewarding good grades (money). It's helped me a great deal to quit fighting with my 13 y/o...

The book really is more about parenting than family conflict despite what the title indicates. Great in conjunction with The Anger Habit with Relationships, and stylistically an improvement over the original Anger Habit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe a better title would have been, "How to know you are angry when you're parenting.", October 27, 2011

The jewel that is this book is that it raises our awareness of how we may feel and act when we're angry, and shows us how we may use these feelings properly in our parenting. If you want to know how to tell when you're parenting from a place of anger (rationalized, justified, or otherwise) instead of a place of love, this may be the right book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Advice for ALL parents!, February 8, 2008

As a first time mom, I felt this book helped me understand how to better raise my child. I didnt want to "spank" but am not 100% against it... I just wanted to find a better way so it wouldnt be necessary. WOW, what a great book. Helped me realize my signals that I gave off, as I was getting aggravated, how to difuse them and how to make it more about the "rules" than about "because I said so" I have a lovely daughter who is incredibly well behaved and I have to say that part of it was because I read this book early on, before she was "trying the limits" Dont get me wrong, she did test the limits, but I was better prepared how to handle it when she did. THANK YOU~

This book is all about what you're doing wrong and not much suggestion for how to do it right. Chapters 2 and 3 directly contradict each other - chapter 2 is about making and enforcing all kinds of rules (everything is to be a pre-set rule), chapter 3 is about how too many rules will smother your teen. You're not supposed to make rules on-the-spot (such as please pick up your toys) but offers no alternative - are mom and dad supposed to do all the work? Absolutely NO help in how to parent a toddler, except to tell you everything they do has to be THEIR idea, such as going to bed on time. This implies some sort of psychological manipulation is in order. The book actually says that if you give children the choice, they will always choose to follow the rules, which is a blatent lie. Plenty of examples of bad parenting (such as not slapping a 2-yr old who definantly poops in his pants on purpose because mom just suggested he go potty) without any direct follow up as to what would have been the right way to do it. This book was a waste of my time to read.
