even better than original Anger Habit,
This review is from: The Anger Habit in Relationships: A Communication Workbook for Relationships, Marriages and Partnerships (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is full of wisdom and uncomplicated principles that are easy to apply in everyday life. The facts about anger itself and it's motives and implications are described and simple exercises are suggested. Even without the exercises, your broadened and more accurate understanding of your own psychology and that of others will give you what you need to undo your anger habit and deal with other's anger. Also contains accurate insight on narcissism (though he avoids the term lest we think ourselves immune) and unhappiness generally. Less cerebral than the original Anger Habit which I also enjoyed, but this is an improvement.
You will feel great relief after reading this as you become aware of how much energy you are wasting! Start now!

An eye-opener,

This review is from: The Anger Habit in Relationships: A Communication Workbook for Relationships, Marriages and Partnerships (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book thoroughly. That is when I wasn't squirming with shame at the insight I was receiving about the motives behind my anger. When the author says that you are not your partner's disciplinarian-when he says it as bluntly as that- you realize that that is what you have been trying to be. And many other such insights are there in the book. If one can keep some keywords like "control", "criticism", "self importance", and "WAIT to express yourself" in mind, one's anger will never ever be the same..The author seems to imply one must never be angry. I don't know if that is possible and there is the danger that people will just repress their anger after reading this book due to the shame it induces.
Furthermore I was disappointed however that even though it says it is a communication Handbook for relationships, about the only positive advice he has for communication is that once you let go of controlling the spouse and being a disciplinarian, communication will just flow from a friendly attitude. I am not sure if I buy that. Worth trying however.

Trade Anger for Power,
This review is from: The Anger Habit in Relationships: A Communication Workbook for Relationships, Marriages and Partnerships (Paperback)
Doctor Semmelroth has spent a lifetime studying a kind of mental ju-jitsu for using the power of our feelings. Nowhere, will the reader get so much power for so little. Anger is one of the most important feelings that each of us have and we are intitled to it. It's too precious to waste. So, we must put it to use in ways that we can be proud of, that serve those we love, and that achieve our goals. These are the things that ANGER HABIT'S brilliant insights and techniques offer--even to the most unsophisticated reader. The reader is not required to change his/her religion, loved-ones, or address. One simply has to use the dynamo of anger to do what one really wants to do. Like all judo, it takes some practice to get your timing down, but it will put some real POW! in your viens---some real power in your habits.

Mr Semmelroth did a brilliant job with this book. In this book he takes great strides to explain a concept before employing an exercise to reinforce the lesson and bring clarity to the topic. I found the material easy to read and digest and have used the lessons already in my daily life.
