5.0 out of 5 stars A truely helpful book, September 16, 2010

This book could be called "the rage solution." John Lee draws the distinction between anger and rage. Anger is a natural emotion; rage is the behavior that gets me in trouble.
The author explains how anger can help a relationship when expressed in an appropriate manner while rage only drives two people further apart.
There are plenty of books out there about finding your bliss and following your passion, but if you are wrapped up in years of rage you won't be able to recognize passion if it knocked you up side head.
The author does not offer quick fixes for diffusing anger in the moment. Those tools are helpful but they don't do anything to uncover the source of the rage. This rage is grounded in the past and we are reacting to the past instead of the present.
The solutions offered in this book are simple but powerful ways of asking yourself questions that get at the source of the rage so you can move out of the past and deal with the present.
It's not just about anger and rage either. He discusses boundaries, limits, assertiveness, emotional regression and passivity. He shows how these elements contribute to rage or can be used to avoid more rage.
I learn best through the use of real-life examples and this book is chock full of them.
If you have been screaming for years to get what you want and nothing has changed - this book will show you why those screams may be driving you further away from your desires. Then it explains an alternative method that is simple and powerful.

Well written and easy to read. Very helpful especially for male clients who are more comfortable with learning a method than they are with traditional talk therapy. Equally effective for females, of course. The author makes an important distinction between rage and anger that helps both people who believe they shouldn't feel any anger at all, and those who express all anger as rage. This is a book I keep on hand to lend to clients.
