Book Description

December 29, 2000 0340741155 978-0340741153 First Edition
At its greatest extent, the Angevin Empire stretched from the Scottish border to the Pyrenees. For fifty years it was the dominant political entity and "English" and "French" history were inextricably woven together. This study looks at how these disparate territories came together, how they were ruled, and whether they truly constituted an empire. The new edition of this groundbreaking work has been thoroughly revised and features two new chapters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A short but perfect book about the Angevin Empires, January 18, 2012
This review is from: The Angevin Empire (Paperback)
I finished the reading of the 1st edition of this short but great book of John Gilligham (Holmes and Meier Publishers, Inc. 1984). I like this period of History, specially the adventures and deeds of the Plantegenet Family. We read about Henry II, her sons (Richard, the Lionheart and JOhn the Lackland), Eleanor and so on. Gilligham is a good schollar of Medieval England and Europe and bring us to the past in a singular way. His book is easy to read and to understand but anyone who intends to know more will need to look for Gilligham's other books about the same subject. Gilligham organizes the book in seven chapters and a conclusion. This ediction still brings three maps and a genealogical table and a good bibliographical indications for further readings. Highly recommended reading.
