5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for students of Anglo-Saxon studies, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Anglo-Saxon Prose Swanton (Everyman Paperback Classics) (Paperback)
Swanton's book is an excellent resource for those interested in Anglo-Saxon studies who are looking for modern translations of prose texts of the period. The book contains a wide variety of material useful to students of literature, history and religious studies: It includes letters, wills, homilies and church calendars as well as more well known pieces such as the Life of St. Guthlac and the writings of Aelfric and King Alfred. Swanton's translations are easy to read and include introductions and background notes for clarity. This book is a must have for anyone interested in the period.
