Product Description

ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters is a highly concentrated food and beverage flavouring. Made from a secret formula, it is a unique blend of natural herbs and spices which is used to flavour a wide variety of foods and drinks. The "secret" was developed in 1824 by Dr. J.G.B. Siegert, a Surgeon General in Simon Bolivar's army in Venezuela. He used his aromatic bitters to improve appetite and digestive well-being of the soldiers. The word "Angostura" came from the town of that name in Venezuela where Dr. Siegert was based. Angostura aromatic bitters is a unique flavour enhancer for food preparation, beverages and deserts; just a few dashes can enhance the flavour of any dish. It is not bitter when added to food & drink, but rather has the ability to marry flavours, bringing out the best in them without masking their taste. It is great with the following, just add a few dashes to add a burst of flavour: -Fruit juices and fresh fruit salads -Coffee -Ice Cream (especially vanilla, coconut, rum & raisin) -Seasonings & marinades (especially for meats) -Soups & sauces

Bitters go in and out of style. They are only called for in a few drinks (or food dishes) but are just imperative for an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Bitters are certainly a matter of taste, but this brand is considered by many to be the gold standard.

The House of Angostura has a long and storied history, and a shortage of bottles a few years ago put their product in short supply, probably worsened by hoarding. Angostura is back, with its famous oversized labels, but it is absent from most local shelves, so Amazon is a reliable source.

A bottle this size will last me a lifetime, and I just might mention it in my will.

Enough said. Great for a variety of cocktails, including Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, Long Vodka, Tonic and Bitters, etc..... The size may seem like overkill, but I use it all the time.

The only downside is that the attachment for dashing the bitters seems to dash the bitters ... across the room and onto the opposing wall. I would recommend getting an essential oils bottle and administering the bitters through an eye dropper.

If you like drinking at all, you MUST have this in your catalog of bar items. A few drops of this to most any mixed drink turns it into a beautiful mix of flavors. A must-have when making and old-fashioned. This is truly nectar of the gods!
Many people use this for cooking as well. The trinidadians, (from Trinidad, where this stuff is made) use this stuff heavily in their cooking, which is one reason why their food is so good! Tenderize meats with it, marinate meats in it - you can't go wrong. You MUST have this in your kitchen or bar!!!

Angostura is a great bitter. There are several manufacturers of bitters - if you are interested in bitters, shop around. In my opinion, nothing beats Angostura, but give the others a whirl, and keep in mind that they are not just for flavoring cocktails. Try them in your tea, coffee, on ice cream and on fruit - be creative!

It's been around for a good long time as a necessity for some cocktails, and isn't going anywhere any time soon. And, if you just want something refreshing and non-alcoholic, but with a little sophistication, try a dash in club soda, maybe with a bit of lemon. It's a recent favorite in our house, and good reason to get the big bottle.

(My nephew isn't drinking age yet, but can order it in a restaurant anyway and impress his date.)

It is good quality and livens up Manhattans to a point where they are irresistible, but that may only be my attachments to Manhattans and have nothing to do with the products quality. But I can recommend it.

If a cocktail recipe calls for 'bitters' -- this is it, unless you're wanting to experiment with more niche items. This is the default, and for years was the only thing you'd find at a bar.

Its a good aromatic bottle of bitters, and you need one at your home bar. Its a core staple.

If you're not buying a refill, i.e. you have never emptied a full bottle of these or other bitters before, do NOT buy 16 ounces at once. You will likely have this bottle for the rest of your life, especially if you like to experiment with other bitters (and thus wont use this in every drink). Save some money and buy a 4 oz bottle. If you use it up, then consider a larger bottle.

This beats the 2oz bottles out of the park. The price of Angostura bitters is going out of site and this is the only way to buy them.
