Mellowdrone's Angry Bear is a completely unique record. Mixing elements of all of your favorite indie bands and then presenting them in a way you'd never expect is one way to describe it. The album sets it all up with "Wherever You May Go" which starts off with a dream like acoustic intro mixed in with Jon Bates's legendary (at least in this household) vocals but then, as it launches into the chorus, it pretty much kicks you in the gut with one of the eriest and melodic sections of music you've ever heard.

The album takes several stylistic twists (like Elephant which hooks you with hard rock licks and invites you to stay with some warm synth lines while somehow having you rock out to a waltz time signature) making this album a rather comprehensive look into music theory itself. But without getting too carried away, let's just say that there's a lot of variety to listen to.

Perhaps the most alluring thing about it all is the turn it takes after the song "Big Winner" (which is a full 2 minutes and 30 seconds of bliss. The album takes a very surreal albeit morbid turn with darker and maybe more mournful lyrics and song style. To say that it leaves an impression on your brain doesn't really do it justice. Mellowdrone has managed to make an album that sounds nothing like anything else. It's surreal, humorous, and thoughtful all the way through and is truly a treat. Give it a go and you won't be disappointed

I stumbled across this album and have completely fallen in love with it. I listen to it when I need to get a lot of writing done at work. It's at once relaxing and defiant. Love it.
