Bring your children's favorite characters from the Angry Birds games out of the screen and into your home with the K'NEX Angry Birds King Pig Castle Building Set. You and your children can construct the Angry Birds world, complete with a launcher that lets the birds wage war on the pigs. Fans of the game will quickly recognize their favorite elements of the game in the 372 pieces, which includes parts that resemble the stone and wood used as shelter in the game.

Looks and Plays Just Like the Best-Selling Game

The K'NEX King Pig Castle Building Set includes four pigs and five birds, and the pieces for you to construct a slingshot launcher and a castle to house the pigs. Once constructed, it's just like the game: load a bird into the launcher and take out the pigs. There is strategy involved in taking out all the pigs. Sometimes it is best to take an indirect route to killing the pigs, such as using the bird to knock a large rock that would, in turn, take out the pigs. Once you knock down all the pigs, you can create another castle for the next turn.

When our testers put the game together, they were impressed with how much it looked like the best-selling video game. The game even includes a package of stickers with small details such as "TNT" that can be placed onto the wooden blocks.

Includes Pieces to Construct One Level

There are enough pieces in The King Pig Castle to construct one level. Children can also create their own structures using their imagination. The included instructions provide an illustrated step-by-step guide to assembling both the launcher and the building. Our testers found that, like other construction toys, there is an initial learning curve for identifying the small pieces and putting everything together.

Use Expansion Packs and Imagination to Create Additional Levels

Despite the limits of having just one building set, our testers were able to further expand their levels by using household items such as boxes, toys, and shoes to launch the Angry Birds into a new and unknown world. For more variety, K'NEX offers a number of different building sets (sold separately), all of which can be used to together to create more and larger levels. The King Pig Castle set is one of the larger and more difficult sets available. For a smaller level, consider the Mission May'Ham Building Set, which has 178 pieces.

It took my husband forever to put it together for our son.

Problems started arising when certain pieces wouldn't clamp together well enough without falling apart when adding other pieces.

My son loves anything related to Angry Birds, so when my wife and I saw this set, we figured it was a no-brainer. The inherent problem with this entire toy is that is has to be weak enough to crash apart when you hit it with the bird, but at the same time it has to be strong enough so that you can get the thing together in the first place. Let's just say that I don't think they really achieved that correct balance (if it's even possible). My wife first tried putting the castle together, and she got 98% of the painstaking process complete. I figured I would be nice and finish off the final 2%, at which point I complete collapsed the thing and we had to start all over. This happened 2-3 more times, and pretty much after every time he destroys the castle by shooting the birds at it.

All told, my son loves the bird figures but we could all probably do without the castle part.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Who would've guessed that Angry Birds would become such a phenomenon? Starting as a simple dollar phone game, it's taken off to be a huge hit with kids and adults, and you can't go anywhere without seeing someone in an Angry Birds shirt. My daughter enjoyed the Knock On Wood Angry Birds game last year, and when this new game by K'nex was offered, I went for it. It's been a long time since I made anything by K'nex and I was wondering how they did with the Birds to make this different from the Knock On Wood game. I won't lie- putting this thing together was a chore for me and took longer than it should have. I can't tell if that's just because it's been so long since I made anything like this, or because the instructions were that vague. Probably the latter, since a few pages show new parts magically inserted in something that you're supposed to be building, and the colors not being that accurate. Once you're done building it though, how does everything work? Eh...I think we'll be sticking to the Mattel games, just for the sake of time.

The first thing I'll say is that the blocks used to make the castle are very flimsy. I'm not a Lego fanboy, but I immediately noticed that Legos hold together much better than these pieces. There were dozens of times when I'd be constructing a section of the castle, only to have it fall apart while I was pressing a piece against another. Most of the time it seems like you can't just snap a piece on from the side or corner and then press down- it needs to be snapped in right in the center. This is incredibly annoying and part of the reason it took me so long to finish. There are many tiny pieces here, and while they included a couple of extra small ones, if you lose just one or two pieces, it could completely ruin one section of the set.

If I could leave negative stars for this product, I would. This is built to be like Lego, but it is certainly NOT Lego quality. It is impossible to build this castle ---- the pieces do not stick together well at all, and the castle is not designed with any reinforcement, so you spend hours building one piece, and then when you try to carefully attach another piece, the whole thing falls apart. Whoever designed this thing should be fired.

It took my husband forever to put it together for our son. The catapult was quite difficult to use even for an adult, it even hurt my fingers when I tried it. Our 9 yr old could not work the catapult! Hubby said the catapult was way too difficult for a 7 yr old. I thought it would be testing their patience to take so long to put it back together each time too.

This is the absolute WORST design possible! The pieces do not stay together very well. I realize the point is to build it up, then knock it down, but we couldn't get it to stay together long enough to completely assemble it even one time. We have several K'NEX products, so when we saw Angry Birds we thought it would be perfect. Do not buy this unless you want to be completely frustrated. It was the worst Christmas gift we could have given our son. :(

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
My 8 year old son is a huge Angry Birds fan. He plays constantly on our phones so we thought this product would be a great choice for him. He has played with legos some in the past so we figured that despite the number of pieces he wouldn't have problems constructing the castle etc. What we found in practice however, is that he would get frustrated with some of the pieces in building the castle exactly like it should look. He had difficulty getting some of the pieces to lock together and as a result the work he did would fall and this would frustrate him greatly. The solution that he came up with is that he simply uses the pieces to build whatever structure he can to knock over.

In all fairness once the structure is built he really enjoys launching the birds at it. However, for a young boy this is only a minute or two of fun for a lot of work. This toy is a great idea for a patient child that really enjoys building and legos.

We are a huge Lego family and got this because our son anted angry birds. Never knew what's huge difference there is with Lego and other brands! Theses bricks don't stay together at all, which makes the structure extremely frustrating to build. I would not buy this again.
I think we will buy comparable Lego pieces, keep the birds, and throw out the knex blocks. It's that bad.
