Nice to Hear From Slim Shady Himself...,
By Sibil Joseph (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angry Blonde (Hardcover)
I got Eminem's new book yesterday, and like the rest of his fans, I couldn't wait to read it. The thing that impressed me most about this book were the many high-quality pictures in it. They are better than the ones of him in magazines or any other press-related items, and they are more personal. For instance, there are ones from the European Slim Shady tour, his video shoots, and other concerts. Eminem wrote the book basically to showcase his song lyrics and to give a short summary on what he was thinking with each song, where he wrote it, and the actual song process in the studio and otherwise. It gives the reader insight on Eminem's work ethics, his studio experience, and how this brilliant emcee writes. His utter concentration and perfection for his work is the number one thing you will get from this book. YOu'll also realize that beyond all the media hoopla, negative press, and his own slapstick sarcasm and wit, there is the music of an artist trying to express what goes on in his head. Eminem doesn't get VERY personal with the reader, as let's say one of his Rolling Stone interviews, but he does touch on his hard life and the struggles he went through. The book is more about "what makes him tick," musically,as he puts it best in the introduction. I'd recommend this book to the true Eminem fan or Hip-Hop fan who wants to know what it is like to think up some phat rhymes and beats, maybe first in the form of a catchy hook, and then actually take it into the studio to create a song. This book, in essence, is the biography about each one of his songs. Also included, are some bonus works, such as freestyles he did on college radio stations and songs that didn't make it off the cutting room table to be added to his albums. Eminem gives you what no journalist focuses on enough: the music and the genius process behind it.

LOST LYRICS NOTEBOOK IS HERE!,
This review is from: Angry Blonde (Hardcover)
THIS BOOK IS SO GREAT. IT IS NOT ABOUT HIS LIFE THOUGH. IT IS MORE OF THE WORDS TO HIS SONGS WITH THE REASON OF WHY HE WROTE THEM. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANT A BIOGRAPHY.

This book was the best!,
By Ramona (California, USA) - See all my reviews

This book was really amazing! I got it for a Christmas present and I had been wanting it since it first came out. I think it's wonderful. It was so awesome to read through all the different pages and then look at the wonderful, full-color pictures. I loved reading every story behind every song... especially my favorite songs. It was really awesome for me to know how Eminem came up with the words to my favorite songs and what he was thinking of when he did it. The introduction alone was wonderful! I loved it. It gave you a rare glimpse at Marshall Mathers. Not Slim Shady, not Eminem, but the REAL Marshall. After that intro Eminem doesn't need to do anymore explaining about himself or his music. For anyone who doesn't understand him, the intoduction shows you what he is all about. It shows you that from the beginning all Eminem cared about was self-expression and the music. No matter what he raps about it's obvious that all Eminem tried to do was capture his feelings on paper. I recommend this book to all true Eminem fans! I think this is a book made directly and only for the fans who understand and love him (like me!) I loved listening to the song on my discman as I read the lyrics in the book. It helped me understand and feel the song better. Not to mention, the pictures were wonderful! This book is by the man himself... Eminem. So what else could you want? And why would you read anything else about him? You know none of this information is false because it's from Eminem to his fans. It is the best book and I recommend all Eminem fans go out there and pick it up! It's definitely worth every penny.

Now We Know,
By "redd_dogg" (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews

This book will probably be bought by real Eminem fans and pop-groupies alike, for the fact that it is an Eminem book. The difference is the pop-groupies will add it to their collection of other Eminem memoribillia and never look at it again, where as the real Eminem fans will read through the lyrics and the introduction about each song, and learn the story behind each lyric and why the song was written. I thought this book was good as it let you get to know a lil' bit more about the way Eminem thinks. Reading from his early day freestyles right through to the Marhsall Mathers lp really does show you how much Eminem's lyrics have changed. No matter how many people want to slag him off, you can't change the fact Em is a highly accomplished lyricist

The Book Angry Blond is a biography written my Eminem. This book is about his music, and why he uses the words he does. It tells in detail what each song is about and why he wrote it. I think that if you like Eminem's music, and want to know the real reason he uses his words, you might be interested in this book. I enjoyed this book because I like Eminem and his music. I read his lyrics and discovered that what he said was clever. He might have lost a relationship with his mother and wife, but what he said and told the world about it was all real. I think this is a great book, and if you are interested in Em or his music, you should check it out.

A Must Have For Eminem Fans,

This review is from: Angry Blonde (Hardcover)
This book is amazing! I would buy it just for the introduction alone! It is full of color pictures all through it that you can't find anywhere else. It is very interesting to read about how each song came about in Eminem's own words.

I am a great fan of Eminem's work. He's a lyrical master mind! I was a bit disappointed when I read this book becuase he doesn't tell much about his life in it, only his lyrics and how he thought to write some of the songs he wrote. One thing I did really enjoy was the list of songs he's created. It allowed me to download some of his stuff that I've never heard! Eminem is great, open, honest and in my opinion a true artist! This book also has some really great never before viewed photo's of Marshall. Check it out!

Angry Blonde? More like Dumb Blonde,
By Lili Love (Beverly Hills, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Angry Blonde (Hardcover)
Word up. Don't put me on blast, cause I tell it. This book's nothin' more than a rehash of Slim's well docced past. I *already* paid for the wicked rhymes. (Can I get a witness? H*ll Yeah!) Oh, puhlease! Now, he wants mo' money fo reprinting CDs?Eminem's cool, he's wicked and wired. But this books just filler, it's weak, and it's expired. Heard it before, why ya taxin' me more? I'm not dissin' the songs, but you shakin me down. Is it money trouble, Slim? Is that why you chargin' me double, Slim? I'll fork up the the green for something *UNSEEN*. :) (Okay, to be fair, a few lines be new, with details so minor the key turns off cue. Now, I do like you humor. I gave a star mo' than it earn. Cause I like you, Slim.. You crazy.. but I don't like to get burned. I don't take you literal. I know Kim's stray and you threw a fiteral. But surely you play, reprintin'these rhymes, and more pics, when you *know* owe it to the fans and the nation to not fan embers like they conflagration. :)) Don't play me "Dumb Fan". I know I ain't "Stan". Okay, you aight. But is you clownin and lunar? Look in you mirror. You see R Downey, Jr? And this book is so tired it should be retread, recalled, with the advisory label expired, but "The Eminem Show", now *that*, I admired. :)) "I'm just playin' Em. You know I love you." :)

angry blonde,

this book was less than i expected it to be. i expected more insight from slim shady on why he wrote his songs, and expected some other songs analyzed such as stan which he left off. i liked some of the freestyle and more underground lyrics that were printed in here because i had never heard some of these songs and they have awesome lyricism. another good thing about this book is that the pictures are top-notch. they showcase a lot more quality than those u find anywhere else. also i found slim shady repeating why he wrote lots of his songs a lot which was a negative.mostly he said he was in a bad time and had been takin too many pills. if u can't understand slim shady or wanna hear lyrics from dope underground freestyles pick this up. also if u want fantastic pictures pick this up too. but if u are expectin lots of detail insight from slim shady u won't appreciate this book. peace out.

Not Just For Rap Fans,
This review is from: Angry Blonde (Hardcover)
This book should be in the poetry section. Even if you hate the sound of rap; if you have any interest in modern poetry, read Eminem. Many of his song-poems are equal or superior to those contemporary poets are writing. Read by way of comparison Sapphire's "Wild Thing" which gained national attention, complete with Congressional hearings and heads-rolling at the NEA or go back to d.a. levy. Then read "If I Had." And all Marshall Mathers gets is a groupie book with a "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" label. What a farce. Yes, sometimes Eminem can be corny (his word, not mine); but more often his lyrics bring to light some profound observations on American life and youth. Spend the money, buy the book, read it and think about what this guy is saying. Maybe, twenty years from now this will get the recognition and respect it deserves.
